KoW So guys, why should I play Kow?

everything has pretty much been covered as to why you should give KoW a try. I will add that The Rules Commitee actualy listens to the player base when it comes to feedback, which is refreshing coming from Warhammer.

Read all the free rules last night, not looked at any army rules yet but I'm going to try KOW.

Just need to decide what total points I want to build probably around 1500.
Is it worth buying the rule book?

@Crowsfoot I wasn't going to buy the book at first, but just a couple of days ago I received my copy. It has a nice quality feel to it and having the scenarios and magic items at hand is useful. Also the fluff is nice, although its a bit empty at the moment. Not that I care its a very new game so it will be nice to see it grow.

That being said in the end is your decision, you don't really need to do it.

I actually like how Mantic has made two versions of their rulebook to sell publicly, its a bit like Warhammer where one is rules + fluff and the other is just rules and both are quite affordable (compared to old Warhammer Fantasy)

I have the v2 rulebook. Backed the kickstarter. What would you like to know about it @Crowsfoot ?

Yes please :)

I'm especially intrested in how many model make up a unit, minimum required so I can make themed bases, I.e.horde 40 models can you use 21?

This information is found on pages 48 & 49. I am not seeing a minimum required number of figures. Instead it states the standard number of guys for each unit size:
For Infantry: Troop=2x5; Regiment=4x5; Horde=4x10; Legion=6x10
For Cavalry: Troop=1x5; Regiment=2x5; Horde=2x10. (first number is ranks)

The standard number of figures is also defined in each unit's stat block entry. The critical thing is for the footprint of the move tray (or multibase) to be the correct size for the number of figures it should hold. (Multibase with no hyphen is a Manic invented word, AFAIK)

:bookworm: On page 206 under, "Modelling Notes" in the fourth paragraph it says: "...the multibase can effectively be treated as a mini-diorama in itself, creating great looking and very individual units..." [it shows three examples on the next page] "...You might even end up with a little more or less than the correct number of models on the multibase — this is fine, but it must be reasonably close to the correct amount, so that there is no chance of misleading your opponents in regards to the real size of the unit."

I think that this "20+1 = 40 strong horde of infantry" notion is not from the rule book, but would be the :shifty: absolute bare minimum level :meh: of compliance with the guidelines that are in the book. Again, the footprint of the whole unit is the key.

I am finding it to be a beautifully laid out book that I can read without resorting to reading glasses. Hardback is 7x10.5 inches closed.

If you read the F.A.Q. document on pages 10, that explains the minimum model count and preffered model count better.

:cyclops:

Is that in the book only?

Lord Grok is going to have to tell us what book or thread he was reading. This thread has only three pages; also, I checked Uncharted Empires, KoW Hardback, KoW Gamers Editions and page 10 is not a FAQ page in any of the three. Wrong page number?

Nah but just the idea of themed basing has really inspired me, Going to build armies for both games ;)
Yeah, I was thinking this too just to get rid of all those old skinks and saurus I have, not worth converting to match the army, so might as well diorama them! And then play with the diorama! But still will primarily play AOS.

Exactly what I'm going to do 8th and 9th are to complex for Archie but KOW and AOS are perfect and both are new games so were in at a good time, I will be buying Mantic models to mix in with my current models.
