Ok guys I'm going to do a Seraphon board and enter it at either Harrogate or Manchester GW this year, I already have an idea but need help turning the concept into reality.

The Idea

2ft*2ft board set as an Island in the middle an Aztec style temple taking off, so futuristic with rockets etc loads of debris around, crumbling buildings etc(Indiana Jones Kingdom of the crystal skull) problem is how does my army get displayed, in the ship, boarding the ship etc.

Idea 2

2ft*2ft board tiered with the temple/ship landed and the army already set out on the board, back tier temple, next tier pond with waterfall onto next tier with a pool then leading to the sea etc loads of Aztec totems, Jungle trees etc etc.

So guys any input you have will be greatly appreciated regarding materials to use colours, anything you can think of.

Cheers

Crow

Crowsfoot, have you ever seen the Stargate film?
A lot of this film's ships have a pyramid style... In the future I will make something like that...
In my mind I will put some led lights on the model... ( Unfortunately now I haven't the time to built something like that... )

There is another version of the ship, but I prefer the first an more simple one...

I hope it will help...

Personally I wouldn't use rockets. The technology should be more advanced... take the Necron monolith for example or the Stargate example provided by TheDoctor above. Rockets feel very much like human technology (and rightly so), it think it would be more interesting to use a more advanced and mysterious levitation system. The LED lights mentioned by TheDoctor sounds cool. IMHO of course; I'm sure your board will be awesome!!!

@TheDoctor yeah I have seen Stargate about 30 times and that is what I'm familiar with.

@NIGHTBRINGER I agree but how do I achieve it?

I'm leaning more to a landed craft with the army setting up around but early days yet.

That makes it much tougher to pull off the effect. A temple ship that is pre-launch will be more difficult to differentiate from an ordinary non-flying temple. What if your primary temple ship (that your army is boarding) is pre-launch but you have a second one that already taking off? Not sure if that would be too much work or if you have enough space on your board.

:artist: Maybe just some blue LED's under the base of the pyramid, as it's slightly off the ground to imply that there are engines underneath.

If the ship is landed Leds could work but I thought about doing the temple facia and then having it cut in half so when you look at the back it's all high tech with a slann in a chair etc etc that way it just looks like a temple from the front but when you see the back you get the effect.

hmmm... maybe you could have a ramp/steps up to the steps in the front of the pyramid, with a small gap for the light,
but in the back have the engines visible in the cutaway view.... maybe shaped like those stones under the slanns throne.

That sounds good, I think the cutaway view will need lighting and I'm thinking obsidan looking floors and walls, that will allow me to spray it at work and get a nice gloss finish then add detail separately.

@Crowsfoot :: how much of the 2x2' foot board does your army need? What is its footprint?

I suppose you could add some "floating islands" if you run out of space for your army....

No idea but if I wanted to display all of them the full board would not be big enough, hence the tier system.
I thought that was the purpose of a display board? (Displaying the entire army...)

Do I need more info about your upcoming events? At US tournaments display boards are used to leave the whole army out for the best appearance judging. Sometimes players use them as giant 'movement trays' to carry the army from one table to the next.

No you have it right but the Army on Display contest does not require a set model count but displaying as much of my army as possible is the goal.

But there is a fixed limit for the size of the display boards?

Sounds like it's time for some crude MS-paint sketches of your board layout... ;)
