Over the weekend I went to a local gaming store just to look around. I was looking through a discount bin and I came across a tiny Slann model. Apparently it is from another gaming system that GW produced, but I have no clue as to which one. Can anyone identify the game it is from?

I had no idea that GW released such a model. It will sit proudly in my Slann collection that includes...

-metal current edition Slann
-metal previous edition Slann
-metal lord Kroak
-Forgeworld Gamesday limited edition Slann
-And now my Mini-mini Slann!!!

I've placed it next to a ruler, 20mm base and a 40mm base for size reference...

Warmaster?

But, IDK, In the US Warmaster blisters were a dark blue card with a gold logo (that said "Warmaster").

I think you are correct! I just did a quick google search and found a warmaster painting log and the guy had the same packing in his pictures as my Slann.

I'm quite amused with this find, especially because I didn't even know that it existed. I think I'm going to use this Slann as my Tettoeko, which is fitting because I've heard Tetto often affectionately referred to as a "mini Slann".

Warmaster seems fun, too bad GW took the game out back into the shed and executed it. I would love to simulate massive battles with lizardmen...

I was a big proponent of Warmaster. I loved the system of ordering troops around using you heroes and trying to determine if a unit should have 'just one more order'. The game was also visually stunning to look at on the table, when painted - but I've always been a fan of large armies and sweeping maneuvers.

I loved the game over 7th edition Fantasy. However, when 8th came out, the tables flipped and Warhammer was the better game.

Also, Warmaster had/has a HUGE flaw in the system - the rule of 4's. After everything was said and done, and you did your best to give yourself more attacks (flanking/charging/etc) and to take away the attacks of your opponent (flanking them/ a terror causer/ etc), you each rolled a number of dice and needed to roll 4+'s to get successes. There was basically no way to improve upon that number, other than more or less volume. Real type of occurrence... "ok now I roll 16 attacks at you, needing 4's....hmm, only 4 hits, oh and you rolled 2 6's to save two of them, so you don't lose a base?" (needed to cause 3 or more wounds to kill a base). "Now you roll your 6 attacks - 6 hits!!" And I failed to save them all!" - So I break after flanking you with my terror-causing unit?"

What type of support did Warmaster have back in its heyday? How many models were there? Were they all more miniature versions of their warhammer counterparts or did they have unique models and units as well?

Mostly Warmaster had the same stuff that the bigger scaled armies had.

I don't remember ever seeing any Lizardmen figures. Empire had a Stank, Chaos had no archers, HE had lots of archers, Bretts had lots of Knights....

Hmmm... Crested Stegadon ?

Interesting.

The Slann in that catalog is the older Palanquin style sitting-in-a-throne type. But the OP has a 6/7th [?] edition version. I wonder how rare it is.

That is neat to see that they did create LM in that scale.

I also remember some crazy people doing something they called Warmaster28. One 28mm Cavalry figure =equaled= one Warmaster stand. At least I think that was how it worked.

Warmaster first used 5th edition style minis.
wonder if there was another release for 6th edition.

Ah oh here's the catalog page from 2006.
(looks like the Slann was one of the few models the updated.)

That's my Slann right there! I wonder how hard (and costly) it would be to find the older Warmaster Slann that is pictured in your previous post.

Interesting, a week ago I didn't even know that these models even existed.

I love how the Lizardman hero is on a T-rex instead of a Carnosaur.

So I'm still short a Slann for my collection! Which do you feel is the rarer model, the old style sitting in the throne or the one I have pictured in my original post?
The one with his Palanquin being held up by Temple Guard is the older model. Harkens back to 5th edition Slann models, like the one I use. So I'd say that one is harder to come by. Unless the newer one had less years of production... But seeing how you currently own the newer one, I'd say the older is still rarer.

I think you're right. I have the warhammer version of the older Slann, but this Warmaster one might prove to be tricky. I figure it will either be quite costly or I'll have to stumble across a lucky find.

That puts my Slann collection at...
  • 2 current edition Slanns
  • previous edition Slann
  • Warmaster Slann
  • Forge World Gamesday Slann
  • Lord Kroak

You mention a forgeworld slann. I can't find this guy anywhere, was it limited release?

Yeah he was. You can sometimes find it on ebay for qutie a lot of money.. Usually around the price of the new carnosaur kit.

I got mine off of Ebay. Originally they were available during a Gamesday event (I forget for which country), after which time they stopped producing/selling them.

If you are still looking for the older warmaster Slann on throne, there are a couple auctions on Ebay right now. This has certainly peaked my interest in collecting Slann, always though warmaster was too cool. You should see them if you just type in warmaster Slann you should get three results for the next couple days at least.
