AoS Age of Sigmar Rumours - Mk II. (Our new name)

More two cents: This could be fun. Maybe. I still don't like the unbound part though. These scans don't even say that you have to have the same *number* of models as your opponent. I am really confused as to how this is supposed to work. I hope the Warscrolls, or actual release-day rules, shed some light on that.

Explanation: Right now it reads like if you bring 20 skinks, I can bring 100 carnosaurs (in theory... I couldn't afford that...), and the rules don't stop me. Even if you have some fancy formation, well, I still giggle, because 100 carnosaurs. I really hope I'm wrong.

I'm thinking it may be like: (mind you this is pure speculation) :writing:

  • you must take at least 2 and at most 4 core scrolls
  • you may take 2 special scrolls
  • you may take 1 rare scroll
  • you may take 2 hero scrolls
  • you must take 1 lord scroll

That could work, assuming there is a some what of a balance between all different armies various scrolls. How would that scale, though?

it could scale on the number of core choices, and/or the total number of scrolls.
and I would imagine that at least the core scrolls would have units of troops instead of single models.

Am I the only one who doesn't give a single sh1t for this game? Half of what have been presented to us could've easily been implemented into a 9th edition game, but noooo and entirely new game HAD to be created and yet they allow all our dolls to be used. So weird.

No you are not the only one. Since it's free I'll give it a go but I'm not sure how happy my buddy will be facing: General on Carnosaur, high elf on star dragon, 2 stegadons, 1 bastiladon, 1 warsphinx, and probably Kroxigor and Ushabti to taste. Maybe throw in a Trebuchet, 2 Screaming Skull Catapults, and some Grail Knights just for shits and giggles. I guess I'm definitely waiting until Mantic gives us a proper Lizardmen list.

But you don't know what those units will do. They may be completely different than what we have now. That's my biggest grip with this new game. Everything you used? You might as well throw that out of the window.

Am I a bit hyperbolic? yes, but so far I've seen nothing to contradict that.

Simple rules don't bother me,
I like complex rules. How many of us can sit down and watch a movie, rattling off similar Warhammer rules as they happen?

Stab a Nazgul in the face and behead it's mount? Heroic Killing Blow.
T-Rex steps on someone less fortunate? Stomp.
Spartans attack from behind a wall of shields to kill their enemies? Supporting attacks.
So many!!!

I guess I hope the Warscrolls bring some sort of flavor with special rules. Are they for sure going to be free?

So apparently battlescrolls can be found, but I haven't seen a proper picture. They appear to have a decent amount of text to them, but people have said there is nothing about what category the models are (core, special, rare etc), nor any points or amount of models you may take.

From warseer:

"No points are confirmed*. But there are certain slots which have to be filled, and certain bonuses and penalties for outnumbering and being outnumbered and the tactical options would vary depending on unit choice. The fear, you could just field Nagash and Archaon versus 2 bretonnian Questing Knights are completely absurd. In addition there should be scenarios released. GW provides the game basics and the miniatures; the players can tailor their "individual gaming experience" from this. In addition terrain and positioning will play a big role, he spoke about special rules through terrain. The past core units, special units and so on will act between each other mostly on the same level. Incredible models like Nagash are more part of special Scenarios or huge battles. If you want to line up a box of High Elf Spearmen against a box of Imperial State Troops, you won't have big difficulties. Additionally fielding 8 Silverhelms on one and 8 Knights on the other side - also not a problem. Special units are also on the same level and have additional rules. Phoenix Guard vs Greatswords? Balanced! Human wizard vs. elven wizard? Balanced.
If the Elf player now decides to add a box of Black Orcs and the Empire player takes another box of State Troops, the Black Orcs are stronger, but the Empire player gets an advantage for synergy. It also depends how you position, buff and equip your Troops or rather match and adjust to each other. Models don't have to stand together (but it gives them advantages), but can be positioned freely. They count on the many possibilities to creativley rejuvinate the tabletop community, also in exchanging experiences for different builds and tactics. On the quiet they hope that certain builds will be playtested, what induces selling more miniatures to creative hobbyists. Through again and again releasing new units and models they plan to take away stagnation and everything is in a steady state of flux. Future editions are not on the table anymore, they could expand AOS as a "liquid system" at their hearts content, like a collecting card game.
When I asked him, if that wouldn't lead to an arms race he put my mind to ease: There would be special editions with limited models, this would include now available but some time discontinued models, which would be especially rare later on. He actually mentioned Chaos Dwarfs (!) in this context. GW will at least provide a Battlescroll for a "core unit". It will cost them nothing and will do no harm. The urge to collect will be fully exploited. But the player who buys and plays the newest models will not simply win, but the player who has the most skill to combine his units with synergy. A perfectly complementary group will have an advantage over new units, which will have to find its role into the existing army through playtesting. I know that my relative has whole cupboards filled with armies and he said, he will look forward to fiddle for hours with his army lists."

There aren't any categorisations on the war scrolls that were leaked.

Could be that's just for the starter set and GW don't want to apply any restrictions at all at this early stage/for new players. But I'm increasingly cynical.

AoS kind of sounds like an iteration of Magic the Gathering. You just build a "deck" and play. But no limits to deck size?

Well according to what I hear, it doesn't sound all bad. I guess generic could work, but knowing how difficult generic AND fun can be, there's still a lot I need to see about these rules before a judgement can be made (well obviously... :P).
I'm both intrigued and a skeptic....

11659289_10155716166015177_6051491198662599508_M.jpg Tried to clean it up a little... Slightly more readable..?

I really hope the utter failure to place *any* restrictions on number of units, or unit size (on anything but the heroes), is unique to the starter set.

Otherwise I'll be *very* confused about army building initially, and only more so later on, as every pair of players will have to agree on their own house rules to reign in the inevitable madness.

These game-rules could be fun, but I'm now worried.

Here's hoping the scenarios or Saturday-release rules have more guidance.

I say I like the table layout, feels more easier to understand than me sitting there figuring out base saves for a few moments XD

Rather not say anything to my boyfriend till he says, until then. I shall have my ear-muffs on standby.
I hope at least it's only this boxset or they explain it properly in the main rule book for slots or what not. Or the army books having to help out more.

*edit
I just realised they can throw their hammers, this is when I think logical on how they get them back. Not magic the answer please XD
