AoS Age of Sigmar Rumours - Mk II. (Our new name)

While I kinda like models, they don't scream Warhammer Fantasy to me. Way too 40kish. I see a lot of space marine players converting these in the future.

I like the creature so there's that . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Interesting. Does look very 40kish. Nice models undoubtedly. Still concerned about the rules though.

Apparently either today or tomorrow, GW is having American GW store managers fly to Minneapolis to give AoS a test drive. We should be seeing some serious leaks over the next 48 hours.

Looks like 40k to me. I'll be sticking to 8th if GW turns fantasy into a "less advanced" version of 40K. Lovely models but to me it's the rules that I want to see.

I'm sold. Those models are so cool i don't know how to accurately describe my excitement without sounding like a fool.

I'm not really seeing the 40k. They look a bit like Sanguinary Guard but they're both in sculpted gold armour. They're still very high fantasy Knights imo. It's more space marines look vaguely fantasy knight-esque than these look like 40k.

I really like them. Will probably pre order it, will definitely buy it. The creature the general is on looks a bit Lizardmen.

Unless they are making a tiny griff like the old model or it could be a Demigriff, which are similar size to IoB Elf Griff
The picture looks a lot like the demi-griff knights. At this point I guess they are just using griffin for any chimera they conjure up.

Roundhammer can be the nickname for v.9

I hate to be the stick in the mud here, but I am not a fan, not by a long shot...

Those models look too much like they're trying to be 40K-fantasy-combi-offshots, like fantasy custodes, or sanguinary guard. The whole thing looks as though it's trying too hard to be part of an entirely different system, some reminds me of the diablo 3 angels, or as a minimum, like it's trying to distance itself as much from fantasy as possible, whilst trying to maintain an almost invisible link to it.

I'll certainly read the book, see what's on the playing cards as it were, but definitely not a fan of those models.

Fantasy is such an aesthetically generic category. I can see why they'd want to move away from it.

Thanks for scooping in the picture @Slanputin. Good faction looks like:
  • CO on some kind of wingless chimera/demi/griffin/demigryph
  • Squad of Five footknights with hammer and shield (x2)
  • Three winged knights with hammers
  • Three footknights with great hammers
  • One psyker/spellweaver/cleric/adepticus/magus or possibly just a BSB
  • The foot guys look to be on a mix of base sizes 25/32mm?
@Slanputin -- yep, I think the left hand end of the Warhammer:AOS banner style logo is Siggy's Sigil. An update to B. Gelt's livery possibly (somebody mentioned the masks) also, a representation of that "light shining in the void" vagueness.

@little-myth -- I share your concerns regarding the flight bases Sigmar has blessed his winged minions with.

It mostly looks like a breakage issue in the future, it's just those cloths are paper thin it seems and it's bad enough having a banner or spear snapping, fixing those will be... I don't know.

Also the guys with the hammers and shields, they look rather elf-like, I can see pointed ears. Unless my mind is making it up.

More unsolicited 2 cents:

Having let my thoughts digest a little, I love the aesthetic look of these models. If the post-Lizardmen faction looks this baller, I'm in for sure.

However, if these are the contents of the starter set, I won't be buying it.

I don't want to play Chaos. I don't (yet) really want to play these amazing-looking "Sigmarines." I want to play whatever the successor is to the Lizardmen.

So, I'll probably wait to see if the rules permit that. If they don't at launch, I'll wait longer until they do. Otherwise... 8E, forever (or until I quit).

The only exception is if this boxed set costs $50 or less (lolz sigh). I might buy that.

bahh, I'm not sold. this looks way too generic good-guys for me. I guess I was hoping that the new human faction would give me a way to reuse part of my Bretonnia army, with some additions and make-believe. even ignoring that, this aesthetic is not speaking to me. I guess I can hope that it's just a bad picture, or that the fluff grows on me...

but, aesthetics wise, isn't this really close to Kings of War's basilea faction? http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/kings-of-war/basilea.html

Too generic good guy, as opposed to the totally unique Empire models?

I don't understand this argument. Fantasy, especially the empire, is incredibly generic. This is actually breathing some individuality into a system that had almost none (from an aesthetic pov).

Which in turn was heavily inspired by GW (oh look, Sigmar! http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-s...lea/product/basilean-high-priest-berosos.html) - Basilean's are essentially a mix of GW High Elf and Empire design, with additional European iconography throne in. Industries thrive on group creativity and copy what has proven to be successful in monetary terms (oh look, Chaos Dwarfs! http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/kings-of-war/abyssal-dwarfs.html), so I'm not surprised about the route they've taken.

The aesthetic they've chosen is what I expected. @Rikard I have to agree with you on the Diablo angels, as well as the Sanguinous familiarities others have said. However, I really like the look/theme/motif that both of the above have, so I'm happy to welcome it into Fantasy.

I guess I was hoping that the new human faction would give me a way to reuse part of my Bretonnia army, with some additions and make-believe [...]
Proxy ruthlessly and go for it.

You are giving me ideas...do you have any un-built pegasus riders? The CO could be converted from an empire DemiGryph knight.

So here's what is quite baffling to me. That's a lot of dolls considering they're going skirmish. You might think I'm spouting nonsense, but unless I'm mistakening the Chaos side have 28 models and the human side have 18 or so. Might've miscounted by one. The High Elf part of Island of Blood came with 27 models.

Isn't that kinda odd? I mean - i seriously doubt we'll be going full skirmish with this game.
