I've been having a think and wandered which of the following we could use more of.

Although a saurus temple guard hero model would be nice, there's no rules for one, though it could be a quite nice change. However I think a saurus on hero like cold one mount is something that could be a nice change.

Thoughts?

We may be making up Lizardhammer from scratch in a month or so. No need to stick within the Nottinghammer straightjacket.

Temple Guard hero on Chained One FTW. (It is chained so it does not go charging away from the unit.)

Or! Temple Guard hero on Clawed One.

A clawed one is a quadruped lizard, big claws on front, slow—conveniently the same speed as TGuard.

As much as I disliked the expansion, Ultima Online introduced a mount like this in its Age of Shadows subrelease called a 'Swamp Dragon' that was just awesome looking. It's got my vote!

I'd very much like to see a Razordon and/or Salamander hero. Some kind of feared, revered, bloodied king of jungle beasts. (Drools dreamily)

Well I like the concept of a temple guard hero, thus my vote. However, most of these are more then welcome; I would love to see a more prominent role for the general footmen of the saurus warriors (meaning, better rules more diverse uses).

The saurus are our perhaps coolest units, so everything that adds to them would be awesome ;)

I think you mean bounce, not charge, seeing as this whole void between worlds, bouncing hammer is going to take place. :p

Got a piccy?
How would hero level salamander/razordon actually work? Or do you mean a larger version of existing salamanders and razordons?

Also, this topic has nothing to at all to do with a saurus head with a huge skull helm, sitting on my desk.

There is a general lack of two-handed wielders in our hero-lineup. I'd very much like a saurus in a temple guard outfit on a cold one, preferably with that kind of weapon. That sounds thoroughly badass.

Although a salamander mount sounds awesome! And with the current models, sounds way more practical than a razordon, as they seem to fire across the space a theoretical rider would occupy... Only Bob's spawnmates would ride such a beast to war!

Saurus hero on a Cold One would be cool but I'd rather have Horned Ones with Skink riders.
Maybe a Kroxigor riding a Bastilidon would be kind of cool.

The best way I think would just be a generic hero and pay for any type of mount we have a dinosaur for. I think that would be awesome to make some just weird and fun combinations.

All sounds good, definitely some interesting things to bear in mind.

Thank you all for the feedback.

I always assumed that warrior progression was something like:
Saurus -> Temple Guard -> Revered Guardian -> Scar Vet -> Oldblood
So essentially all our heroes are ex temple guard.

The two things that make me envious about other army books are variety and stand out units.

With variety I look at other army books and see that they have options for shields, bows, etc or at least a few similar unit types. I'd love to have the option to take halberds/heavy armour or a different saurus type based around frenzy/glittering scales. Even some different mounts would be good.

What I mean by stand out units is that when I'm looking through other army books there always seems to be something that really stands out as being much better than anything lizardmen can put together. e.g. Vargheists (and other heavy flying monsters), cannons, non-heroes that can get a 1+ armour save (really nullifies strength 4 :() and I just wish that lizards had anything like that. I know that we've got skinks that other armies can fear, but really who was inspired to start lizardmen because of some strength 3 toughness 2 critters.

I am sure I read somewhere (I think it was 6th edition) that temple guard were spawned as temple guard, stronger saurus with the abilities and duties to protect the Slann (which explained why they couldn't take or be given spawnings).

Again (like so many things), I wrote a rule set and fluff for them, just like the 6th edition wood elf book, you could make a lord and hero level temple guard with a single upgrade, which gave them a stat and rule boost, but at the cost of losing the options for taking spawnings and mounts (this included access to magic items/weapons only available for temple guard).

This I wrote to tie in with 6th edition rules and stats for Lizardmen.

An upgrade looked like this:

Scar Veteran: 30pts
+ 1 WS, I, LD and increase to scaly skin save.
Cannot take spawnings, or be mounted.
Stubborn.
Comes with light armour and Halberd.

Old Blood: 45pts
+ 1 WS, I, LD and increase to scaly skin save.
Cannot take spawnings, or be mounted.
Stubborn.
Comes with light armour and Halberd.

Both may take Temple Guard only Magic items (can have a look for them, if anyone is interested, including a very nasty magic halberd that does some very nasty things to enemies with ward saves, the greater the ward, the nastier the stack....let's just say a 3+ ward becomes a huge handicap against this weapon).

Sure, I only started playing in 8th but I've ended up with a 6th edition book from a load of stuff off ebay so I'll take a look through it.
It does sound like we lost most of our variety when we lost the sacred spawnings. Bring them back I say!

Argh Dang it!

I accidentally dropped a load of greenstuff and wire on the floor yesterday and look what happened?
*sigh*

Guess I'll have to salvage something out of it. :D

does the oldblood upgrade include the bonuses from the scarvet upgrade ? (+ 1 WS, I, LD) x2 ?

Nope, upgrades don't stack, but the reason the Old blood's is more expensive for the same upgrade is because it's more of a bonus than it is for the scar vet (this was going off of the kindreds for the wood elves, a kindred upgrade gave the exact same abilities for a lord as it did for a hero, but cost more for the lord upgrade).

You didn't have the buy the upgrade twice though.
