8th Ed. Salamander flame in close combat

So, I can´t find anything about it in other topics, so I want to know if the Salamander breath weapon can use it in close combat like 2d6 attacks? Or is not a breath weapon and something different?

it's Not a breath weapon, so you cant use it in close combat.

 

I really think I play it bad and forget to use this "flame weapon".

it most resembles the Dwarf Flame Cannon or the skaven warp fire thrower.
