Thought it might be a really cool idea to have a paint and swap event. The idea would be that everyone willing to participate will paint a mini, and toss their names in a hat. Randomly, we draw other people's name and ship them the painted miniature. Everyone who enters should both submit and receive a model.

There are a few ways that we can go about this I think:

    1. We all paint the same miniature.
    Pros: Price Fairness
Cons: Possible the mini will be a duplicate of one already owned, dislike the miniature

    2. We send our painter the desired miniature we want painted
Pros: We get the model we want, painter doesn't have to pay for model
Cons: Shipping price/times, would probably need to set a size limit of the mini

    3. Painter selects the mini to swap
Pros: Painter could use an existing model they have, no need to wait to receive mini
Cons: Model painter sends might not be worth (in dollars) the same as the model they receive.

Since there isn't a great way to hold everyone accountable this will probably be upheld through the honor system -- by entering you promise to follow rules etc.. It would probably be best if we only allowed users with X amount of posts to enter, otherwise I think it would be more likely for violators to enter and ruin the fun.

Overall I think it would be great to own some work by others from the forum! What do you guys think?

Sounds like it could be a interesting event, though since we are an international forum, what you mentioned under point 2. should perhaps become a larger point since the shipping cost to send the miniature could potentially be more expensive than the miniature itself, all depending on where in the world the person live compared to you.

So with this in mind, while it might not feel fair for everyone that might want to join, it could be a good idea to limit it to a said area. I.e. UK, Europe etc. to avoid surprises when it come to shipping cost.

Reaper's Forum members do things similar to this. What they do is work out zones. Then participants are grouped by zones.

Usually, North America (US, CA) is a zone, UK and the EU are a second zone, RoW / Pacific Rim is a zone (usually there are too few participants in the last one).

Sounds entirely possible. I suppose it largely depends on forum participation/willingness. We'll have to see!

Sounds like a good idea, shipping cost will kill it for a lot of people, I've sent a few model out, one to @spess another to @Xlanax_lot and one to @tom ndege and it can get expensive.

Your best option as a trial is for everyone to paint a cheap model say a skink and specify a theme you want it painting in, Zebra skink please!

I'd be up for it anyhow.

Shipping is the casus cnactus (term for the point causing most difficulty/ problems my grandma and mother used to use...) here I guess. Splitting the thing up into smaller pieces seems to be a solution... though it my leave some people without a partner to swap things with... or with significantly higher costs for shipping...
But I guess it's nothing we can't solve...

I believe it is sufficiently clear that we must limit the thing to pre-defined geographical zones.
