For the last week or so I've not been able to upload images - every time I try I get the following message: "The uploaded file is too large for the server to process." The images are considerably smaller than the limit, so I can't understand what is going wrong. Any ideas?
What is the image size in mb? And also what is the resolution? It could be that it is your resolution that is too high.
Phone pics? I had the problem last week on my Iphone as I updated the app that takes pics, it reset my settings to pro and that uses a unsupported file type and increased the file size.
2.7-3MB. I have had no issue with uploading photos previously, and I am using the same phone with the same quality of image. No change for me. These are identical to all previous pictures I have uploaded.
You could upload your pics to a 3rd party site like imgur, photobucket, or picasa. That's what I usually do, though it's a bit more work.
I don't wanna be annoying but recently read I think @The Red Devil advise against this as then sometimes they vanish from the site better to have them directly on here I think
What is the resolution of the images? That is true, thinking long term, if they are uploaded here, we know they will stay. While that is not a guarantee elsewhere.
Same problem with the uploads here. All my pics I ever posted here are the same size, taken with the same mobile phone camera, same resolution, around 3.9MB large. Forum says 7.9MB is supported but says they are too big. I tried from phone and from a PC.
Could be that the XenForo is set to 7.9mb but the PHP setting hasn't been changed to allow the increased size post and file upload size. I'd need to see the php info output to see, but I am sure someone will work it out. Don't know what was changed when they did the maintenance the other week to advise further.
Yarp.. I have an approximate knowledge of many things.... I just happen to know a fair bit about websites and servers.
Before we start making assumptions, it would help more if the people with issues could answer the question I have asked several times. So, @BAE and @Aginor What is the resolution of the image (width X height)? (https://www.freedigitalphotos.net/blog/tutorials/image-resolution-explained/) To be able to upload an image there is two limitations employed by the server. 1. The actual physical size of the file in Mb. 2. The resolution of the image. In the specific case it could be that the resolution width/height or DPI is higher than the forum accept at the moment, and cause the upload restriction. The reason there is a restriction in place is two fold, the initial one is the cost of reprocessing the image into smaller images required by the forum. This restriction unfortunately has to be stricter than some of the image upload websites, due to the forum software handle this synchronous instead of asynchronous like said sites. In short, this means they are processed during the same call as you upload them, and if this process take too long, or use too much resources it will fail. While image upload websites process them one by one, after you have uploaded them which is why sometimes it could go a few minutes before they show. It is possible that we can increase the limitations, but before we do that we need to know what type of images (resolution etc.) people have problems uploading.
4032x3024 jpg 3.9MB Exactly the same size as all the pics I uploaded during the last weeks. Same phone, same settings. So IMO it must have to do with something that was changed only recently.
I'll echo this. I've had the same issue and am having to shunt my image uploading through my dakka dakka gallery. its started to get slightly frustrating.
The ones on my phone that won't upload are the same as @Lord-Marcus , but even the ones on my PC at 781KB 1632x1224 images won't upload. I've never had a problem with either of these before last week (same phone, same size etc. etc.)
Short update in case you missed it in my painting blog, hope it helps: I used an app to scale the pictures down to 75% (3024x2268, jpg, 1.2MB) I could then upload them. And yes, I also had the problem that I cannot upload the originals from my PC either. I do not think that's a Browser problem (OR it is, and affects both Firefox on PC and Android). For the sake of completeness: my PC's OS is Win7, I use Firefox. On my phone I have Android, also using Firefox. Another PC I tested has the same problem, it runs Win10 and Firefox. I keep my software up to date on all devices. If you want me to test anything, I am glad if I can help.
