in a skink heavy army which is better to field, salamanders or terradons?

I'm not exactly sure how to answer the question since both choices fill a different roll.

From my experience Terridons are a must have, at least one unit I prefer 2 one for each flank. their great at exterminating fast cav with their drop-rocks special rule. They can also be joined by a chief mounted on a terridon which ups their LD and effectiveness in, well, every thing they do.

Salamanders make units take panic tests and work wonders against high AS low to average toughness units. They cause fear and are better in CC than the fliers are making them better units at taking a charge from medium cav. And they have an effective range of 24".

If at all possible take both.


As an after thought, prolly salamanders so you can better deal with the heavy stuff.

I agree with carlo, i like both terries and sallies.
I guess maybe a better question would be: Salamanders or Razordons... Cuz they kinda share a similar role... sorta.

I think terradons are, they can take out war machines easily, they fly around harrying the enemy, and they cant eat their handlers

just to re-define the question, if you have only enough points to choose one which would be better for a large army?

In a large army i would squeeze out other things to take both since I believe in an all skink army they are both more than worth their points.

If you really had to choose one or the other, and that is essentially the question, I think it will somewhat depend on the rest of the army (post it if you like) and definitely depend on your personal preference and play style. The terradons are a good support unit, their drop rocks ability is kinda powerful against light opponents, they march block to control the movement phase better and hunt warmachines, lone mages and some other light support. The salamander is a great flanking unit that can cause panic very easily and has the potential to do a reasonable amount of damage.

Which do you think would support your army better? I would probably try both and see how they went. Everyone has different experiences with different units.

i have friends who play orcs and goblins and tomb kings and high elves. i find razordons better than salamanders against tomb kings because they are better at taking out chariots (which my friend has a lot of) and the salamanders panic doesn't do anything on an unbreakable army. on the other hand when fighting orcs and goblins the salamanders panic test sends goblins running for their lives thus sending everything eles into panic as well. although i find when playing best friend and his high elves, they both are relatively equal.

i don't have both kinds of models though, only razordons but my buds let me play them as salamanders. finally i find that salamanders are a little more difficult to shoot with since you don't know how far the shot will actually go.

I see this as a very generalized statement. I believe that there will always be a constant debate about the effectiveness of one unit versus the other. I think both have their uses, in given situations. Although GW's LM FAQ did some damage to the razordons reputation. I no for certian, until we see a better unit, that Razordons will have their place (however small) in the LM army.

The vote should be razordons vs salamanders, as BOTH terradons and razor/manders are good AND perform a different function.
However I voted for razordons because;
-Terradons' main role involves march blocking people.
--As you are using a skink army you will have chameleon skinks, which can perform the same function, and are 10 times classier.
---A skink army without the firepower of razordons or salamanders lacks the very thing that the army is supposed to do, which is to put out a lot of shooting from skirmishing units that are difficult to engage. A unit of terradons doens't exactly mow units down from range. But Razor/manders can and often do.

But as I said,my arguament s redundant. Take both.
