8th Ed. Which is best Special Character??????

I agree with many others that our special characters are far over priced. They have some awesome fluff to them but I just don't see the use of fielding such an expensive character when you can deck out a scare-vet or oldblood for cheaper and at least the same effectiveness if not better. IMO Gor-Rok is probably one of the few characters worth his points cost plus he has cool fluff :-). Kroq-Gar is a sick model but WAY too expensive and not overly impressed with his abilities. I could field an oldblood on carnosaur, deck him out and he'd probably put a whooping on kroq-gar IMO.

Completely agree mate, but the other day myself and four others who all collect different armies (lizards for me, skaven, dwarfs, orcs and high elves) were bored so decided to have a mass battle royal using all the special characters from our army books. It was a knockout style tournament, winner stays on and the only lizard hero who performed well was Kroq-Gar. The general workings seemed to dictate that if Kroq-Gar didn't kill the opponent, the carnosaur did. But again completely agree that they are all overpriced and yes i concur that Gor-Rok is probably the best allrounder taking points cost into account, but for me Kroq-Gar is pure filth and fun to use IMO.

That sounds like a really cool idea for a fun/friendly torunament! Glad to see that kroq-gar and grymloq were able to perform well :-)

Has anyone tried out Oxyotl (the Chamelion Character)?
I would think with the rise in usefullness of Chamelions in
general that he would start seeing some play time....

Imo lizard characters are NOT woorth the points. As already mentioned, for the points cost of them you could field couintless saurus instead.

Mazda mundi- i appreciate the whole steg/wizard combo but he doesn't have any good disciplines, well he only has 1! and for his price, you could get both a good slan AND a steg.

Kroak- Ok but very expensive

Chakax- useful for buffing TG but Expensive and not the duel master they claim. ASF, yes but he weilds a great weapon, so NO he doesn't go first at all.

Gor-Rok- Very tough and good fun but again, cost!

I think the only character even slightly worth his points is Kroq-Gor, And Oldblood on a carnosaur. That if the mood takes you allows Cold one riders as troop choice. IMO the best of a bad bunch

Chakax doe have a great weapon but also has the strikes first ability even if your oponent has the same ability.

I used oxyotl in a tourney this weekend and he is kind of fun, but really not worth his points. I am only playing him because he is the cheapest special character. The first game the Chamos he was with got magic missled and then panicked off the board. The second game he got magic missiled and panicked, but rallied and eventually dropped a level two HE mage. In the third game against WoC his unit got worked, but they didn't panic, but he didn't really kill anything.

Thats how i read it but according to the staff at my local GW, because he has a great weapon it negates the fact he strikes first, and it goes on innitiative. I argued that it doesn't negate always strike first because chakax doesn't have that, it says his opponent always strikes last, small yet big difference.

Will have to bring it up again now someone agrees with me.

Regarding oxyotl, he sounds like fun but to be honest for less than what he costs, i could field 12 standard chameleons, no contest IMO.

Chakax, The Key to the Eternity Chamber
Change to “When fighting in a challenge, Chakax gains a 5+
ward save and his opponent Always Strikes Last.”

So Chakax does not have "Always strike first". Therefor booth he and most opponents have "Always strike last". Therefor they fight in initiative order.

Ramramm is right about Chakax. I think that it's definitly not in the spirit of the special character though. It should be FAQed or clarified.
