8th Ed. What's your favorite Lore vs. High Elves?

I'm looking at 2000/2500 points, filling out my core with 2 Saurus blocks, 2 Chamo-Skink units, 1 or 2 Terradon, ~20 TG, Super-Slann, SkPriest(on a steg in 2500), Salamanders.

My buddy typically runs Spears or LSG, Lvl.4 Shadow/Lvl.2 High, big blocks of Phoenix Guard and White Lions, and some Great Eagles.

I've typically run Life, occasionally trying Light. What are people's preferences against High Elves? I'm not particularly interested in re-hashing Life v. Light, but I think Light may have some big upsides in dealing with high I & ASF. What are people's experiences against the pointy-eared?
 
Just played a very similar list of High Elves, plus he took a total of 7 characters (A Prince, 3 Mages and a few other random heroes).

I used Lore of Light and was able to pull out a win. But the High Elves always Strike First even when using Great Weapons and re-rolling misses if rough! 15 White Lions chewed though half a unit of 25 Saurus pretty quickly.

Lore of Light is always good answer to HE you can then effectively take away the re-rolls.

Lore of Death could be good as well, use it to snipe characters out of units, but Purple Sun is not always effective against elves because it is an I test. Plus you dont want to cast it from the second rank of TG unless you are willing to sacrifice a few on TG in the process.

Try Lore of Fire and just roast him, elves are pretty squishy T3 and burn nicely.
 
not sure about lore.. but defniately take the item that causes his mage to discard 6's.
it can be a life saver.

Absolutely. I generally run the Slann w/ Focus of Mystery(Lore Master), Focused Rumination(extra die), Becalming Cogitation(6s discarded). Cupped Hands & Ironcurse Icon for my items.

If I were to run Death or Fire, I think I'd consider dropping Focus of Mystery- seems to me that having the whole lore in either case isn't such a big deal since I'm still getting 4 spells.
 
Well, I find that elves generally have a fair enough amount of armour, especially their elite infantry/heroes and lords, and Dragons. Lore of Metal would be an interesting choice to use against them as it would make killing off the larger threats easier early in the game. A dragon with toughness 6 will still be wounded on 3's from your spells, all of their knights will be wounded on 2's. Their Lords and Heroes will most likely be wounded on 2's or 3's as everyone likes to protect characters via armour and ward saves. And the best part is, no armour saves are allowed against the lore so thats a big plus :)

The only real problem with the lore is that all attacks count as flaming so the phoenix guard will have to be dealt with by other means. But since your magic will make quick work of the normal big nasties there is no reason your skinks can't run in circles around them at a close range and shoot 'em up!

It might not be the best Lore but it is definitely worth a look :)

To add to this, i would like to point your attention to the blood statuette of spite and the fact all elven mages are T3 or worse :clown:
 
i love life against high elves! strength of 3 means that they die really quickly to dwellers, plus added toughness to the saurus is a big bonus against the great weapons. the high elves can have all the re-rolls they want when its going to take 6's to wound.
 
currently I am loving Lore of Shadows. Especially because reducing the Elves T and S by even 1 helps enormously, they are rolling 6's to wound our saurus (except for SM, PG, and WL who are on 4's, 5's and 3's respectively) just by that -1S.
Plus a T2 (even better 1) mage will very likely find they've lost a couple wounds to the Blood Statuette of Spite.

The other hexes work awesome as well, -d3 to WS, BS, I or (possibly and) M really combats the High Elves main advantages and -3 to Ld plus salamanders is a nasty combination.

The flying spell can be used to screw with peoples plans pretty effectively

The other spells in the Lore are mediocre at best and require other spells to go off as well or just enhance something that we are already at an advantage with

BUT, with that all said I still use Lore of Light in my 'all comers list' (I am considering changing though)

ALSO DRAGON KNIGHTS HAVE IMMUNITY TO FIRE SO I DONT SEE THAT WORKING but it could be good against a heavily sea guard army ]

According to the High Elves FAQ, the Dragon Armour only provides a 2+ ward save against flaming attacks now. Not a big difference but a difference nonetheless.
 
It's got to be lore of life T3 dwellers to get those big units is amazing!
 
I wouldn't rely on the lore of metal for the high elves being heavily armoured, everything has a 5+ or worse unless it's heroes or cavalry so it isn't exactly amazing. I think lore of fire will do better against them but it depends on what the enemy likes to bring with them.
 
I have been re-reading all the magic Lore and was thinking that Lore of Beasts is looking pretty good, make all characters within 12" +3 attacks and +3 Tough, or something like that (at work dont have book in front of me)

But how does a couple tough 8, 7 attack Scar Vets sound? They could slap down a few elves and the rest of your Saurus can just sit back and watch the show. hehe
