The forums name says it all! i'm new to the game and just proxied kroak last night in a game and loved him so i was looking for kroak lists and stumbled apon "kroaknado" i was just wondering what this list is and how it works so i can put to use the kroak i'm ordering!

Pretty simple in principle, but prepare to be not popular playing that combination:

- Lord Kroak
- Balewind Vortex
And for maximum effect:
- Astrolith Bearer

Kroak's special spells get pretty powerful that way, and he becomes melee immune. You nuke the living hell out of everything on the table.

It isn't an unbeatable tactic but very strong. Perhaps our strongest one. But pure cheese.

what is a balewind vortex and how does it work?

It's a Scenery piece that Kroak summons and then sits on, no model can go with 3in it can't be charged and the wizard Kroak in this case gets +1 to casting and unbinding rolls and double range of all spells.

Basic tactic is:

- Teleport kroak in the middle of your enemies
- Summon a balewind
- Summon an astrolith bearer
- Spam mortal wound spells, starting with celestial deliverance
- Wait for the enemy to die

How does one beat it? Massed cannon fire?

Shooting armies can kill him, and magic heavy ones as well.
Depending on the terrain it might also be possible to prevent him from teleporting near so it is possible to take away some of his damage potential (because he stays in his corner) and of course you can also prevent him from casting his more dangerous spell with one of those auto-unbind items. Then you can even ignore him and claim the objectives because at least he isn't able to move on the vortex.

Meh, dump him in the literal middle of the field, especially with a astrolith he'd manage to reach 90% of the field anyway. To be honest objectives and the like are probably the most difficult to counter him with. Especially considering it usually isn't just Kroak sitting pretty on his balewind. Plus, Kroak can Always just move. Does the balewind move with him if he teleports?

Well to be able to teleport there has to be a 20" hole within the enemy army, and some armies can really block the table in a way so Kroak cannot teleport into their middle well.
Not impossible but it can be hard, especially if they get first turn and can move quickly to block the areas.
And yeah, Kroak can teleport or dismiss the Vortex but he cannot take it with him.

Meh, you can teleport him in a good place regardless I'd say, with maybe a handfull of exceptions. I'd say that the only real counter is just shootting himwith a bunch of stuff.
