Haven't got my hands on the new book yet. But what's all the hate for the beast? I like the model but I've being hearing it's bad. So what have GW done now?

hmmmm.... how to phrase this.

It is a relatively expensive model... dearer than a basti... almost the same amount as a carni.

BUT.

his shooting attack hits on 4s or 5s at best and its 1 shot.

He is poor in combat... he gets to channel. Yay

And he gets a one use only ability that affects some models in your army in a positive way.

Does that about sum it up everyone?

It does three things: fights, helps the Slann, and boost predatory fighters. It doesn't do any of those three things particularly well.



To get your points worth relative to our other Rare choices, you have to implement each of the three functions flawlessly which is hard to do. It's not that the Troglodon is bad, it's just that the rest of our army book choices are better.

anything else of an equal value would kill it in average circumstances.

T5 and bascially no protection means you will generally not be getting thunder stomps so dont count on doing serious damage against anything greater than elf archers.

for its cost I could take 100 slaves.... man.... what I could do with 100 slaves. lol.

also love the coat... or bar... or whatever.

It's overcosted or underpowered. It also eats rare points.

To fix it they'd need to make it cheaper or else improve it's survivability and buff the oracle. As it stands he's a skink shaman who has no spells and has to pay to channel. If he even had a chieftain stats it would make more sense.

a little stronger scales or the possibility of a 5/6+ ward save on an "artifact the skink oracle found somewhere BLAH BLAH" wouldnt hurt.

Since the support attack rule says to ignore special rules.
We have at least 2 threads debating it, with the outcome, I hope it gets FAQ'd to allow it.

I agree on it being "more" fair. It won't be a great choice but I'd probably run it occasionally if this ends up being true.

The shooting attack needs to be buffed up in some way. Maybe if the shooting attack had HKB or it shot the 3" template as a poison upchuck blob.

Or a rule that represents it not having any actual sight. Like maybe it can charge 360 degrees because of its super trog senses.

Or the oracle actually doing something other than just having vassal.

Idk. It needs...something. otherwise it is just kinda "meh".

If Kroak gets FAQ'd to allow his spell to hit ALL enemies in range, (rather than all in range, in front arc, and not in combat); I'd consider a Trog.
It could run up a flank, and then into the back field and provide a pulse spot for Kroaks Deliverance.
He's just good enough to deal with fast cav/skirmishers that could take out skink priests who try and do the same job.

The oracle has a lustrian javelin, so u have an extra 12" bs 3 str 3 shot at the enemy not that it's much but something to note ^^ so if it's charged you get 2 poisoned stand and shoot shots, on at str 3 and one at str 5

example: what if one wanted a monster/magic/range list?

I have something im gonna try out (second game from now)

Key units
1 Slann - Channel staff combo
2 Bastiladon - 2*Solar
2 Reg-stegs
2 Trog + Channel

(fill in after taste)

Formation example:

SAURUS - TROG - BASTILADON - STEG - SLANN - STEG - BASTILADON - TROG - SAURUS

each and every of these units has range potential. Even though most has bad odds for hitting, the amount of shots should at least make something hit.

The synergy.

Trog: channel potential to feed the Bastis. Gives Slann range through the entire army, a decent chaff clearer.

Bastiladon: besides being firepower they give your monsters better chance of surviving I-tests.

Steg: Ranged firepower and fighting power if anyone gets close.

Slann: not sure how to play him, just that he has to be there. you could go life to heal your beasties and occasionly Dweller away... but HM might be just as good a pick with apothesis and HoG.


.. anyway, I think the Trog is actually a viable choice here, as you want the extra channel attempts, and the arcane vasal...also: you want something better than a skink cohort with a priest to take the flanks.
The Roar CAN be used for a potential Saurus core..but I think I'd use it that ONE fight the Trog will have to take.

It might not be competetive as H, but could be fun.

Kroak in a big temple guard unit.
Big saurus unit with Gror rok in it.
possibly a thirds unit of saurus with a Scarvet BSB.
a couple of skink priest
a troglodon
and some support units (terries, rippers, chamelions, ect...)

Edit: Think Deliveration of Ista cast through the Oracle.

I'm one that trogs the talk but hasnt trogged the walk, but I just cant bring myself to write one into my lists! I def see the potential but cant help but think another steg or two would just do the job better. The way you have it written up here seems fun, but for about the same price as two trogs I'd rather have 4 skink priests w some kit. Looking forward to seeing others responses though, if it works out and I'm totally wrong about my take on the trog, thats a helping of crow I'd gladly eat!

I like this! We usually dont play special chars in our area but I'm starting to write up some lists w them for adepticon. Being driect damage, does Kroak's spell only affect those in the front arch (out of combat)? Ditto on that question for the engines burning alignment

I asked GW Exeter and Plymouth in UK. They both said that the LM book overrules the BRB for rules. They agree that Deliverance would hit all units in the RADIUS of Kroak or vassel, not just front arc!!!!!

Hopefully that means this will be FAQ'd
