8th Ed. Traveling donestic/international with your miniatures?

So I will be movibg to the US and i was eondering if you guys could give me insight on the following?

1. What type of cases do u use when transporting your miniatures by plane?
2. Are u allowed to take miniatures as your carry on? ( I am worried they wont be allowed because of all the pointy parts)
3. Any tips?

When i moved from the Netherlands to Turkey my collection was put in a sea freight container with the rest of our stuff. And they spent 6-7 weeks in there and that was actually quite nerve wrecking (especially the thought of Turkish customs opening some boxes). But they arrived and sustained minimal damage (2 snapped of shields and one snapped of arm).
The thing about packaging your models is to make sure they absolutely cannot move, then they can sustain quite a rough handling without (too much) damage.

Never took my army on a plane though, but I believe a few friends who travelled to London (i think) to a big tournament took them as carry on board luggage. Secrurity asked them to open up the cases though, but it was fine. They actually got a comment that their models looked better than some of the other people they checked earlier that day. And my friends were actually wondering if they had to open the bags for security reasons or because they security guys just wanted to have a look at the models.

Hey thabks for the tip man! really good advise! Also that story made me laugh! Hahah that sounds like something a security dude would do

I travel all the time in the US for tournaments (6 times this year by plane). I always take the models on the plane and check my other luggage. I never want to risk the airline losing the army for a host of reasons. Plus showing to a tourney but not having your army because the arilines sent it to a different city would suck.

About 1 in 4 times they have you open the case, most of the time you go right through TSA. It is never a problem.

I have used a number fo different cases over the years. Just make sure they can fit int eh overheads.
