8th Ed. tournmant system and comp rules for Lizardmen

Hey All,

OK- so Ive been playing warhammer for quite some time, but because for most of my gaming career I've been bad (new? I like to think it's cause I was new) I never considered anything beyond store tournaments. BUT- times move on and suddenly years later I'm not! So now that I can actually think beyond local tournaments... Whats next?

I know GW hosts some regional tournaments, and they also have the masters tournament... (that's what its called right?) I feel as though playing ultra-competitively, this point in my warhammer life might be fun.

So beyond playing at your local store tournaments, whats the next level?

Also- what is the current comp. rules and such for lizardmen- I know the comp. can change based on the tournament rules, but roughly what are the restrictions?

Lastly,
I've been playing warhammer long enough to know their is always the cheese-list for every army. However, I have never looked into what is considered the lizardmen cheese list, so I'm not sure exactly what it is! It's possible I play with one , as my gaming group is, as competitive as as possible, while remaining friendly; if that makes any sense.

Lizardmen cheese list :

Tooled up slann in TG unit.
Minimum core in big saurus block/(s)
Max out rare with units of 1 salamander to burn down the enemy
Fill the rest with units of chameleon skinks/terradons

Such a list gives you a strong caster, strong CC force and lots of shooty stuff. It also doesn't includes any ''weak'' unit of the Lizardmen army book.

Comp varies from place to place, most GW events don't have any IIRC. They go from simple (no special characters) to the stupidly complex (See the European Team Championship rules). Most tourney's will provide a rules pack well ahead of time that will list any comp restrictions.

You would be looking for GT's (Grand Tournaments).

Comp varies from place to place, most GW events don't have any IIRC. They go from simple (no special characters) to the stupidly complex (See the European Team Championship rules). Most tourney's will provide a rules pack well ahead of time that will list any comp restrictions.

Stupid complex. I Lol'd pretty hard. The newest rule set is just 2nd draft (IIRC) and during 7th edition comps changed a lot in different drafts.

This may just be me, but I dont fancy to face Empire army w/ 2x Stanks, 3 Mortars, 2 Cannons, Walter and lvl4 Life mage.

Lol, my point was to show the extremes in comp possibilities. But, you have to admit that the number of changes alone makes the ETC rules extremely complex by comparison.

Here is my tips for getting into the tournament scene:

1. If you want to just go to GW non-compped tournaments ask in your local GW or look on the website for the events they run, they are always straight out the book events (GT, doubles etc)

2. If you want to get into the thriving UK tournament scene look at www.rankingshq.com, that will provide you with a pretty fullsome list of events in their calander function.

3. Start listening to podcasts like bad-dice podcast and heelan hammer podcast. The podcasts are done by very regular tournament players and are geared towards that, this should help you prepare for whats out there.

4. As far as restrictions and usual comp for tournaments it COMPLETELY varies but you will often see things like:

- 12 powerdice per phase cap
- No double rare
- No triple special
- (sometimes) no unit over 400 points
- No more then X number of warmachines

Those are some pretty standard but it will say in the rules pack for each tournament what it will be.

5. The website www.rankingshq.com is also an easy way to purchase your tournament tickets or even just find the websites of the events being run.

This one made me laugh pretty hard. I guess Beasstmen can't field minotaurs and Ogre kingdoms can only field Knoblar units!

I've only seen the "no special characters" rule myself. Then again, I've only played in a couple.

They arn't screwed if its over 400 points you can still field alot of ogre at that points limit the other one i have seen is 500 points but if you think about it mate you need atleast 3 units of the field so 2000/3 your looking 660 points so its not exactally a ridiculous cap...

On the two occations I have heard this ruling at a tournament (one at 400 points and one at 500 points) yes I believe it did include chars.

The point of the rule was not allow stupidly big deathstar units which now you need to kill the whole unit for the VP's was impossible anyone else faced 40+ blood letters with heralds in?

You would apprechiate this ruling a lot more if you had done =)
