got a tornement coming up soon no restrictions. and im struggling to finalise my list. What im lacking is a good hammer unit. so i thought coldones might be good but how many (only have 9 models plus a scarvet that i could use as the 10th) but the unit is pretty pricy at over 300 points. and i cant fit terradons or chameleons in.

this is a basic run down of the list

slann (death) loremaster, rumination, becalming. bane head, cupped hands bsb (stand od dis)

a priest with scroll
a priest with cubbed
2 scarvets one mounted

37 saurus
2x skink skirmishers
12 skinks (bunker)

26 templeguard
9 coldones

salamander

this is a 2500 tourney . i would like another salamander atleast and some chamelons but the only thing i can drop is the coldones which i need as a hammer. do they work in smaller units?

The cold ones won't really do anything of note other than not get thunderstomped and the unit really isn't that much of a hammer since the best it can get is S5 on the charge so most of the time it is S4, which is the same as the saurus. The army already has a pile of S5 attacks in the TG unit so that unit could be given the razor standard to give them AP if you want better results against a lot of the 1+ AS cavalry that is out there. Given the overall list, if you are looking for a hammer, then what is needed is S6 attacks or better so I would consider the following options:

1) Ancient steg - S6 impact hits and thunderstomp. Main drawback is cannon magnet but frees up nearly enough points for another sally.

2) krox or skrox - For nearly the same points as 9 CoC, you can field a unit of 6 krox. With lizzie initiative, both units are likely striking last in combat anyhow so you might as well hit with 18 x S6 + stomp attacks. Other advantages are krox have twice as many wounds, no stupidity, can occupy/assault buildings and don't do dangerous terrain checks. A skrox unit with 3 krox could be fielded as well for fewer points.

3) Wizards: IMHO, you can easily drop one of the priests - with becalming, a single scroll is ample and it's not like the priests are going to be using power dice anyhow. The points can be used to field another sallie(s) and to upgrade the skink "bunker" to skirmish - if you want to park a skink priest in the unit, making them more mobile is key to avoiding combat.

I agree with Stonecutter - the cold one unit does not qualify as "hammer". Putting 3 characters in it might make a hammer, but the characters are the hammer, not the unit.

I definitely think that is too many characters. I go with no skink priests usually, but I certainly wouldn't take more than 1. And I don't see much value to a scar-vet on foot, especially if you also include a mounted scar-vet.

ok thanks guys will have a look and see what i can do with it.

I like the second list better, I would also definitely use your last 10 points to give each of the salamanders an extra skink handler. That way you wont misfire, eat 3 skinks, and suddenly go feral. Its worth it to have more consistency on the valuable slamanders for 5 pts.

I normally load out my scar vets differently with great weapons, dawnstone, and the like, but that is just my preference. The only thing I see that you are missing is flaming attacks, which isnt a huge problem, just be careful of regenerating monsters.

I like the second list I think its pretty damn good. Just take that skrox unit and point it at the nearest thunderstomping monster and whack away.

dont the skinks give away too much combat res though.

how about this crazy list

Whoa. All in together or 2 units of 6?

If I had enough models I'd like to field a horde of 18 Krox, just for fun.

Being Steadfast pretty much nullifies combat resolution bonuses. Especially if the General/BSB are nearby. Just bring lots-o-skinks! They're the ablative coating for your precious S6 cargo.

one unit 4x3 or 3x4

4x3 is 24 strength 6 attacks with the guys at the back for casulties

slight variation on the krox list as i wanted to get another scarvet in
