7th Ed. Terradon fly-by rock dropping

I was in a tournament a few days back and I played against another LM player. He made a move with his terradons which is either illegal or very ingenious.

Basically, his unit was in a wood circa 10" away from me and he moved forward 10", and back 10" again. In this manner, the terradons did move over mine and obviously they showered me with the rocks. I did not complain seeing as I had 2 big terry units myself and I flushed him myself the following turn using the same tactic.

However, I felt that it was a bit cheesy and I wanted a second opinion on this.

So my question is:

Can a terradon unit move forward and then back again (in actual fact returning to their initial position) and drop rocks?

There are no rules saying that flyers must move in a straight line. If they have the movement to fly out, deliver their rocks and fly back from wence they came, it is a valid move. I felt a bit cheesy the first time I used this tactic, but feel its a viable tactic for survival at times. I've also flowing a serpentine like pattern over the enemy to deliver my payload on the unit of choice. Just make sure you explain to your opponent what you're doing.

Guess you're right Barotok, it just doesn't feel right. Don't know why but I have this nagging voice in my head telling me that there is something somewhere saying something against this. I vaguely remember something similar to this being clarified in an errata but I can't remember what. 40k I believe... tank shock maybe...

The most similar thing in fantasy I can think of is the Daemon Screamers. You can't fly over an enemy more than once to hit it multiple times...

I don't think that "cheese-z" at all. I'm usually quite careful with my terradons myself.

I'm failing to see the cheese in this as well. It seems like a normal, valid tactic. Maybe if they did it turn after turn after turn... but they only have one Drop Rocks.

And out of curiosity I just reread all the movement and flier sections and it appears perfectly legal.

I say take that sweet action and use it if you can.

Wow I had never thought about that, and I agree that it does somehow feel wrong. I would be a bit hesitant pulling something like that, it basically gives the terradons a 10" shooting attack that can be used without LoS. Still, the others are right there is absolutely nothing against it in the rules.

The rules for Terradons can be found in the LMRB on pg 96 for profile and rules on page 52.

The Hit&Run rule refers to the fact that terradons may use the Feigned Flight rule in the main rule book just like Fast Cavalry. (BRB70)
