8th Ed. Stegs in 8th

How are people finding stegs working in 8th edition?
I used them a lot in early 8th ed. games, only to find them getting killed in 1 or 2 turns of shooting.

But now, after some couple of ten games withou steg, I've started thinking of taking steg as a cannonballcatcher and screener for my mounted scar vets. Hot or not?

ps. I use light macig, so no lifeblooming steggies

for me the best (and maybe the only effective) way to use the steg is as a mount for your skink priest(with E.o.G.) or with a couple of giant blowpipes(for more shooting)...but the truth is i havent used any(maybe because a am pretty new with lizards and for now i play with my friend's army)

Take Pha's protection and keep the slann close for the 12 inch bubble. Also, if you use the EotG, pop the 5+ward vs shooting. That should get you across the field ok.

I still occasionally take the stegadon (usually as the skink chief with war spear or EotG). It's hit or miss for me as to whether they make it across the field. I have had recent games where they were game changing and I have had one game (last month) where the EotG died at the beginning of turn 1. Priest made his save though (had a ward save from something).

I've brought a stegadon with war spear chief three times now. In the first game it only got a handful of impact hits.

In the second game I rolled 12 impact hits.

In the third game I rolled 13 impact hits.

I'll never leave it at home again ^^
