Hey everyone,

I just picked up a Lizardmen Battalion last night along with the codex and the Fantasy Rulebook. So far I'm really happy with my purchase and am excited to get my first game or two under my belt, but there's a problem. I don't have a Lord/Hero.

What is a good one to start with? At least for an army comprised of what comes in the Lizardmen Battalion box.

My suggestion would be to check out the Skink Priest and the Saurus Scar-Vet/Old Blood models. These would be the primary ones that would see play when doing 1000 point and under games. I don't think you would need "named" models yet with only a battalion box of models. You will, though, at some point want to get a slann mage. for the 1500+ games.

The fancier heads for the saurus and cold one are probaly meant to be the champion,
and with a few extra bits from the batalion would pass for a hero.
 
I think the best hero for you is scar veteran. Let us know what is your choise. :D
 
I use a Saurus champion as a scar vet. Before I had a lot of models, I just modified his sword to be a little bigger. I used some plastic card to do that.
 
When I purchased my box set I ran into the same problem.

I pulled a small rock from the garden and mounted a Saurus with a sword on it, put a few extra little gold bits on him, painted his shield a little different and voila instant Scar - Vet!
 
It is pretty easy to convert a skink or two into a priest as well. On one of my skink standard bearers, I took a saurus spear arm and trimmed it down to make it into a staff. That could easily be a priest as well.
 
Alright awesome, thanks everyone! I'll probably finish reading the rules and the codex entries for each of the battalion units before I decide what to use. I'm leaning towards the veteran, but I'll work it out soon.

What do you guys think a good next purchase would be to expand my army? Just some ideas to get my mind going, I haven't even built the battalion yet so I haven't gotten any form of ideas as to what I like.

I also don't want to expand quite yet, I am almost done finishing painting my Blood Angels for 40k, so I want to do that and then reward myself with some new models for the Lizardmen :D

I would suggest picking up a Slann (if you dont have one) a couple of Salamanders units and after that maybe a Steg or two.
 
Are Slanns getting a finecast soon? I feel like if they're soon, I'll wait. If not, I'll get one Saturday.
