AoS Spell range increased

There are options to increase the range of a spell (vortex, astrolith, Master of Order, .. ). Spells like Whipvines and Briarstorm from Ghyran have multiple ranges. For both spells you need to select a point within 18" and units within 3" of the point are effected. Do both of the ranges get increased or only the range to select the point?

If I recall correctly then it is the 18" that get increased, not the area of effect.
 
Yep, bonuses apply only to casting range, unless specified.
And when it's specified, it's usually a nerf (see endless spells that don't enjoy any range buff)

Oh, Endless spells range don't get any buff from a wizard on a Balewind? Or a wizard in range of an astrolith bearer? If so, I've been playing them wrong.

Yes.
It has been FAQed . Endless spells range cannot be extended.
The problem was Morathi, so GW, instead of fixing the broken rules of a single overpowered model, nerfed Endless spells for everybody.
Typical.

Broad bandaid solutions ftw... For some reason GW really likes using these kinda broad solutions a lot with magic in AoS.
 
why is morathi the reason? whats her interaction that caused the issue
 
oh... her little form doubles range... wow that was a bass akward way to fix that....

She can double her spell range. And that means that she could fling those endless spells pretty far.
For example Geminids had 36" range.

Yeah she was just broken. And instead of fixing her they nerfed everything else.
Including the feature of Seraphon being able to use arcane vassal for endless spells, which they had even talked about in a Warhammer community article since it was such a good example what kinds of cool tactics would work with endless spells. We were all pretty excited.
....until one week later when they nerfed it to the ground.

Imho, the arcane vassal rule isn't even the worst example they ruined with this "fix". The worst one is that they literally broke one of their endless spells a week after releasing it (the mirrors that allow you to fling spells through em)

how was that broken? measure total inches to the mirror, then continue measuring from the other mirror?

I mean that they didn't allowe them to affect endless spells after the FAQ, thus removing the key aspect of what made them interesting tactically. Hence they "broke" the mirror spell in the same way arcane vassals was broken/ruined by not allowing us to use it for endless spells. I didn't mean it was overpowered.
 
oh so mirror cannot be used for other endless. got it.

Wow. Couldn't they have just faqd her warscroll to say not endless spells?!. Much easier than breaking an interesting mechanic in the game.
