8th Ed. Skrox Horde or Skink Skirmishers?

Hey all,

I was wondering if instead of taking two units of Skink Skirmishers, I should combine the two units and add some Kroxigors to make a horde. There are 28 Skinks and 3 Kroxigors in the unit

What do you guys think? Skirmishers or a Horde? It's part of a high-cost 3k pts army list, only around 100 models in the entire thing =P

Don't make a horde, make them 6 skinks wide with the 3 krox in second and third ranks, and 22 skinks behind them. That way you get to remain steadfast for longer. Skrox hordes are pretty pointless, since the kroxigors are already blocking the 3rd rank anyway.

ohh yeah. regarding this issue.

since i was absent for the 1st month orfrom teh forum since 8th ed, i was wondering... where's the old skrox vs. skirm discussion now? i looked for a topic but couldn't find one, and since they were weekely i'm quite suprised.

i don't actually need to read one just the result of te discussion is ok.

For 8th edition? I don't think a general concensus has been reached yet, bottom line is both are very useful and have their place in an army. Skrox units are definitely becoming more popular now though.

It should be noted that in 8th, the skrox unit can turn now. I still prefer my skirmishers. I have used skrox more in 8th than I did in 7th though.

Skrox units are undoubtedly more usefull now in 8th edition. But I don't think I'd field them as a horde, at least not in a serious competition. I think the widest I'd go is 8 across so that I could field all three Krox in a line and then stack the rest of my skinks behind them. The stubborn for them is way better IMHO.

However I'd definately not leave out skirmisher units either. They are far to usefull still and a must have I believe. Must like Terradons in last edition and chameleons in this edition, they are a must have.

Hmmmm the only thing keeping me from wanting my Kroxigors in a mixed unit is the lack of their Stomp attacks... But at the price of not being hit back it might be worth it.. And if all the Skinks get killed off by turn four or five then I will finally get my Stompies!

And yeah, a Horde would be pointless as Kroxigors take up two of the ranks so as has been stated, just go for deeper ranks to try and make steadfast..

Okay, so no Skrox horde. How should the normal Skrox unit line up then? I have 30 Skinks and 3 Kroxigors.

If you can protect their flanks line them up 6 x 5. If you don't think you can keep people off your flank go 8 x 3 (and some change).

The Skinks would be 8 wide with the Kroxigors lining up behind the middle six of the front rank, two on either side of the Kroxigors, and then two full ranks behind the Kroxigors with 2 more Skinks in the last rank Cheers!
