8th Ed. saurus with spears

I have a question about saurus with spears in 8th . Do they get x2 attacks per saurus for the first two ranks and 1 for the 3rd sup rank.

1 attack on the second and third,
4 th too if you run a horde

Unfortunately not, under the spear entry it says that an additional rank can make a supportive attack (or something of the like) and supportive attack means 1, regardless of the amount of attacks a model has on its profile. To be honest I don't see why they worded it like that, Saurus Warriors are the only models in the whole game who didn't get a boost from the new supporting attacks rule...

The rule book 8th on spears [foot] "spears are long shafts of wood with a sharp metal tip. Because braced spearmen can fight in an additional rank, spears are ideal defensive weapon for infantry" [ special rule, fight in extra rank]. But not on the turn it charges. The 3rd rank is the sup rank. This is where i get fuzzzzy.

Page 48 describes what supporting attacks do for the second rank, the spear extra just gives you an extra rank of supporting attacks (which may only be 1 attack no matter what.).

no they get to attack with two attacks in the second rank because it doesn't classify the attacks as a supporting attack. it says that they are able to attack. therefore we get to attack with two attacks in the second rank and then and additional "Supporting attack" in the third.

It does classify the attacks as supporting attacks.

Supporting Attacks: Page 48.

It states models in the second rank get to attack but 'he can only ever make a single attack regardless of the Attacks on his profile, or any bonus attacks he might otherwise be entitled to because of special rules or other unusual effects.'

Also, the rule for 'fight in extra ranks' that spears give say the unit makes 'supporting attacks' in an extra rank. Page 69


It's pretty straight forward. Front rank, 2 attacks each, second rank, 1 attack each, third rank, 1 attack each. If your running horde and spears, you get a 4th rank, with 1 attack each too.

wow yeah you are right Gojira, thats my bad I didnt read in depth enough, i had missed where it said extra ranks special rule which then states they are supporting attacks...
