8th Ed. Please Help! 2500pts

So, i've dusted off all my Lizardmen stuff that i could find & adding up the points i can make a 2500pt list. I need as much advice as i can on this as i'm getting back into WHFB after about 12years of playing 40K.

These are basically all the mini's i have at the moment, but can and plan to buy a couple of others (Bastiladon!).

Lord:

Slann Mage Priest (unfathomable prescence & Becalming Cogitation is what i've allowed points for, what do you think?)

Heroes:

Chakax (maybe replace him with Gor-Rok?)
2x Level 2 Skink Priests

Core:

20 Saurus (Spawn Leader, Musician, Banner)
20 Saurus (Spawn Leader, Musician, Banner)
10 Skink Skirmishers with Blowpipes (Patrol Leader)
10 Skink Skirmishers with Javelins & Shields (Patrol Leader)

Special:

20 Temple Guard (Guardian, Musician, Banner)
8 Cold One Riders (Leader, Musician, Banner)

Rare:

Stegadon (I've allowed points for it to Ancient with engine of the gods & Unstoppable Stampede- is this wise?)
Salamander Hunting Pack (3 Salamanders)


I'm not a huge fan of the Cold One models, neither are a lot of you all by the looks of it! I was thinking about exchanging them for a Bastiladon? Is this a wise move? It would free up points for me to upgrade the Slann to be a BSB, but i have no idea if this is a good idea or not?
Please treat this as a completely noob list and give me as much advice & criticism as you possibly can, i'd really appreciate it.

Your list looks solid when glancing through it. There are some points that require second thought IMHO

Slann; You really want this guy to be the BSB. His Ld9 is awesome, re-rolling Ld9 is...well more awesome!
The Slann causing terror isn't all that good. Focus of mystery, Soul of stone and harmonic convergence are the most popular. Soul of stone is very good in keeping your slann on the board (and maybe some temple guard as well)

Skink priest(s): You might want to give these guys some equipment. Dispell scroll and a cube (effectively 2x scroll) are very popular and good.

Chakax: I'm not a fan of special characters. But overall, he's quite alright.

Core:
20 Saurus isn't that big. It's just enough. 24-28 would be a bit beefier, so you can hold out longer when you take some casualties from magic/shooting/combat.
Your skinks don't need champions I think. Unless you're going to a tournament where the champions would mean you can capture objectives. Otherwise, drop them.
Special:
The SCOR vs Bastilodon is a question I've asked myself too. And here's a topic about it!

That should give you some more thoughts on the matter.

The temple guard are good. 20 is a good number, more is always good! The Guardian can carry the ironcurse Icon which is a cheap and solid item.

Rare:
EotG is a great unit. But an ancient stegadon with sharpened horns also is. Keep this one in, EotG or not.

Salamanders; I (still) like running 2 seperate units of Salamanders. just 2x1. More drops on deployment, more target variety and still a lot of infantry-destruction. 3 seems like a lot to me anyway, so if you decide to keep them in a single unit; you might want to consider dropping one.

Things you want:
BSB on your Slann. Dispell scroll on a priest, some more saurus warriors.
If you can scrape in the points: I think terradons and chameleon skinks are a great investment. But it will be tough finding the points.

Just consider the suggestions I made, and see what you do with them. You have to play with the army afterall!

Thanks Hunted, i appreciate the input and thanks for the link to the thread too.

I'll have a wee play around with the points and see if i can upgrade the Slann, Downgrade Chakax to Gor-Rok and see what else i have room for. I have 8 SCOR so i may exchange them for a Bastiladon and test both out to see what works best. I'll also remove one Skinks and use the points to increase my Saurus ranks.

I also plan to get some Terradons or Ripperdactyls at some point too.

I'll also have to look deeper into equipment. If i remove a Salamander it should free up extra points too.
