8th Ed. plague furnace

I played skaven the other day and my opponent had a plague furnace which was shot down on my first turn by my chameleons. Am i playing this right using option 1?

option 1: My chameleons can shoot his plague furnace and randomise against either the furnace itself or the priest guy on it.

option 2: I have to kill all the plague monks before i can shoot at the plague furnace.

if option one is correct then plague furnaces are easy to defeat with plenty of chameleons.

if option 2 is correct then plague furnaces just got a whole lot harder to kill.

Even if option 2 is correct you can still use oxyotl to kill the grey seer.

number one. It says some were ion the skaven book all shooting attacks made against the furnace are randomized, 1 to 4 hits the furnace and 5 and 6 hits the monks.

Can you not target the furnace and then you randomise like you said against the furnace or the priest on the furnace?
