8th Ed. Pit of Shades and Feedback scroll

hi guys, in my last battle we had a few argues aboout some rules, so please help me if you can

1)Does feedback scroll and bane head cause double wounds to the nominate character?
2)Pit of shades is a direct damage spell which clearly in the rulebook states that must target a unit so you cant place the tamplete over nothing and then hope if it hits anything, it has to start over an enemy unit, correct?

Yes as it hepls your character to cause wounds, wich the bane head then doubles.

No, as it has it's own targeting rules wich say anywhere within 24", it is stil necessary to choose a target as per the direct damage rules but there is nothing after that stopping him from placing the template anywhere as it's rules allow it.
