AoS Path to glory rule for bastiladon save

So im trying to find out about a particular ruling on a skill obtained in the p2g campaign. I picked up implacable defenders for my bastiladon


What im trying to find out is does the reroll of the failed save apply to the save roll for mortal wounds the bastiladon gets.. people in our group are saying you dont get the reroll against mortal wounds because its not an armor save

You would not get the reroll against the mortals because it isn't an armor save. The roll against mortals is an ability.

No worries was just making sure as theres alot of the same skills in other armies that give them rerolls on mortal wounds. Like bloodrhirsters getting rerolls on failed saves and then getting feel no pain save ontop against mortal wounds

That's not quite correct.
Look at the wording, it says you already suffered the wound but you ignore it.

A save isn't against a wound but against an attack, which will then cause one or more wounds if you miss the save.

So yeah, in a discussion you may call it a "save" against mortal wounds, but it isn't, it works differently.
And that's why the ability does not allow to reroll it.

Some of the attacks that do mortal wounds even specifically say that you do not make a wound or save roll, but do mortal wounds instead.
And a Basti's ability works against those.

There's also attacks like the warp lightning cannon that just says "deals mortal wounds" but says nothing about skipping save rolls.

To be honest it'd be a lot clearer if they'd use some consistent naming and phrasing The bastiladon seems like an extention of the "normal" save roll because the ability affects normal save rolls as well. Whereas most of the other similar abilities don't affect the normal save roll. It makes this particular example a bit weird.

If nothing else the re-roll ability should explicitly state "re-roll normal armor-saves" or some such, instead of "re-roll saves" seeing as it feels rather natural to assume every single mechanic that prevents wounds falls in the catagory of a "save-roll".

I absolutely agree that the definitions could be better.
For example always use the term "armor save" if it applies to "normal" saves.

Or clearly define that "armor save" = "save" and everything else isn't.
