which is the best choice between the empire and the ogre kingdoms? I'd like to start a second army and i like this two races, but:

-i don't like the empire infantry
-i think that ogres have too many problems to play them effectively: they cost too much, they have low initiative, they have low armour saves and average toughness, so they suffer magic and ranged attacks

what do you think? I usually play against high elves, dark elves, skaven, vampire counts, dwarfs and chaos warriors.

Well, my advice would be to give OK a try even with their problems, b/c despite their problems, they do have some good pros going for them too...

Pros
Multi-wound core Monsterous infantry
High strength
Decent Rare/Special options to pick from
Low price to build a good sized army

:beaver:

I've got a small army of them that I'm working on myself, and they work out pretty well I think... If you want to try them out prior to buying in, you could always proxy some cardboard squares as OK units that you want to try and find someone to play a game with you using tose proxies and see how you like em... :P

I collect both. And I do think it depends on what you want from an army and how much you’re willing/want to spend.

The empire has everything from gun lines, magic heavy to combat ... albeit not to the same standard as other armies and they can field a pretty hefty amount of models (if you desire). The OK have hard hitting… well everything but lack numbers. The OK will also be considerably cheaper to collect from start to finish too.

Considering the various armies you play against; my advice would be go empire due to the amount of choice and that you will be able to bring, thus creating various lists that can deal with any army.

You don't like Empire infantry rules or models? because there's plenty of nice alternative 28mm human models out there.

But if you don't like Empire infantry then I'd say go Ogres, since Infantry are such a core element of the army...

As a lizardmen player, I hate Empire and their cannons. But I hate WoC more, and Empire have lots of fun killing WoC with black powder weapons.
Ogres are great. Like an army of Kroxigors. Also, 2 things:
-Mournfang Cavalry
-Maneaters

My friend collects Ogres and they're great fun and easy to paint. But I wouldn't go either because there's alot of them in my local meta

Then what makes you fun most?

I don't understand the question

I thought about Ogres but ended up collecting Empire for my third (and last) WHF army.. I like the idea of running forwards and smashing everything I see. I just didn't want to paint dozens of smelly fat guys. Also I don't care for their fluff. Course my tertiary army keeps getting pushed to the back burner so nothing is painted...:(

One thing I realized is that I have Lizardmen, Vampire Counts, and Empire. Apparently I decided I like low WS armies....

You seem to have that thing going if you are balancing Lizardmen, Empire, and Ogres.

Maybe lame advice but I say don't worry about what is the "best" army, the books and rules will change a lot over the next 20 years.

Play whatever side you like the "feel" of the most.

i ended up playing chaos dwarves :D

How has it been going for you?
