Hi guys I'm new to the game and want to make a 1500pt army that I can play
And not get completely slaughtered.
I don't have any models yet so you have free rain

Also are those stegadons any good and if so how many could I field?
Thanks guys
First hello and welcome to the forum.
Stegadons are one of the better units we have access to, at 1500 pts you could field as many as 3 regular stegadons and 1 ancient stegadon. I would not advise that though, and the ancient is probably a better investment.
A bastiladon is a popular choice as well id you're happy about having some monsters in your army.
you'd want Saurus in your core and/or special allotment in the form of temple guards or saurus, just remember to strive for a minimum spent in core (25%).
You're going to need warmachine hunters and chaff, so bring at least 2 x 10 skink skirmishers and either terradons or chameleon skinks. You might want to bring ripperdactyls as well.
For a general / lord you can go with a Slann at 1500 without having him be to cheap to perform well, you can also go with an OB on a cold one which should have quite a kick - if you bring him though you may wanna consider Cold one riders.
For heroes always bring a single priest with a scroll, if you wanna shut magic down some more bring another with the cube. Saurus scar vets on cold ones deliver quite well as heroes too and you may wanna consider 1 of them as well.
List example :
Lord
Slann mage priest w/ soul of stone, harmonic convergence and channeling staff.
Core
24 Saurus w/ Full command
10 Skink skirmishers jav and shields
10 Skink skirmishers jav and shields
Special
20 Temple guard
Rare
Ancient Stegadon w/ sharpened horns
Now there's 136 points to spare for a ripper chief to hunt machines and/or wizards, or some chameleon skinks, or a unit of terradons or Ripperdactyls, you'll notice that i haven't used half of what i mentioned earlier since the inclusion of the Slann and thus the Templeguard limited me by effectively eating half of my points - it does make for a nasty unit though and spending some of the pts leftover to give them a banner of the eternal flame wouldn't be a bad investment.
I don't want to tell you how to make a list, but rather give you an example. If you go with an OB on Cold one there's a lot more wiggle space on your other units since you're only trying down about 200ish pts instead of the almost 400 i spent on the slann, not to mention the TG that were only about 100 pts cheaper. that wouldn't give me a stubborn combat block with flaming attacks though.
