ok, so to start my LM army off, this is kind of what I want to do to build up to a 2k Slann list

Skink Priest
Level 2
Plaque of Tepok
Wardrums of Xahutec
Engine of the Gods

18 Saurus Warriors
Champ, Standard
Spears

10 Skink Skirmishers

10 Skink Skirmishers

5 Cold One Riders
Musician

All your eggs in one basket with the EOTG, but provides the +2 cover save to your general which is handy.

Seems solid enough but I would recommend taking a full command with the riders, or atleast a standard. They need every little bit they can or they fill fall hard.

Yeah, the major reason I have the EotG at 1k is that its a build up to my 2k list and I didn't want to waste money on stuff that wasn't going to be in the 2k slann army I am building towards.

Soon I will have enough points worth of LM to take more viable 1k lists, but until then I'll try to use this just to get used to the LM playstyle.

So do you think I should move the command off the Saurus to get a standard on the Cold One Riders?

Champions are a nice bonus but ultimately only offer an extra attack that may translate into an extra 1 CR.
A standard on the other hand is always an added +1 and can be picked up by the rank behind even if that model gets killed off, the champion on the other hand does not benefit from such a handy rule...

So to answer your question, yes drop the champ (not the whole command) to get the standard (if you need a few more points just drop a saurus or 2, try to stay above 15). Cold Ones in my experience are notoriously bad for falling apart in drawn out combats, saurus however fair better, not only that but they pack much more of a punch...so lean towards the CoR's when trying to spread the points.

Looks like a good practice list, you've got everything there pretty much, cold-blooded rule (obviously), the durabilty of saurus, skink shooting and manouverability, CoR's, Steg/EOTG's and a touch of magic. Most of what you will find in the majority of lists and what make up the bulk of the overall LM play style.
