8th Ed. New Lizardman Player!

I'm currently the owner of Dark Elves, Beastmen and Tomb Kings, and was looking to branch into an forces of order army, having the choice of Lizardmen or Wood Elves. Finally deciding on the Lizards!

Here's my starter 1000pt army list that I was looking at (before I buy models I won't use)
Please bear with me, I don't actually have the book yet, so I'm not sure on what everything does yet, and just taken ideas from other posts

Skink Priest - Level 2

Saurus Scar Veteran
Bsb - Banner of Discipline

10 Skink Skirmishers
10 Skink Skirmishers
19 Saurus Warriors - Full Command

Fine list. You don't really need to change anything.

This looks quite good overall, couple of small things I would consider changing though.

For Leadership purposes I think you'll gain more from skipping the BSB and using the Scar-Vet as your general. Ld 8 Cold Blooded is fairly reliable and this way your Skinks and Stegadon will benifit too. Would also let you fit in a magic weapon on him, I can recommend the Burning Blade of Chotec, but there are many good choices.

The Plaque of Tepok is a slightly better setup than the Dispel Scroll if you ask me, having only 2 spells means he'll be very exposed to miscast on high power rolls. With 3 spells you can saturate your dice alot better.

The role of the Skink Skirmishers is usually to either bunker a Priest or to provide expendable redirection for the Saurus after getting a volley off. For shooting purposes the Chameleons are much more flexible and just plain superior. Personally I prefer Terradons to fill the role of redirection over Skirmishers, because of their flexibility and their great ability to take out the opponents light troops with rocks and stomp attacks.

Swapping the 2nd Skirmisher unit with 3 Terradons, and getting a 6th Chamo Skink in your unit would be my preference. Tweaking the characters should save you the points. I like the Stegadon choice btw.

Why would he not upgrade to BSB? You only give up magic item selection if you take a magic banner. 3D6 with re-rolls is just too good to pass up, especially when stacked on top of LD8 aura. So, drop Banner of Discipline (not needed at this point level), take magic weapon or great weapon+defensive gear.

Nothing in Heavens is worth boosting anyway, so you don't be 6 dicing anything anyway. I wouldn't bother with Plaque, Heavens magic isn't anything special. Dispel scroll is pretty handy at this point level, it prevents the few mega-spells from happening (most people aren't loading up on Lord mages so the ultimates are less likely to be IF'd through). Thats all you take the Priest for anyway, magic dispelling and a bit of Heavens if he rolls 'Chain Lightning'.

Well, re-directors have to be cheap to be effective, because they're going to die usually. Terradons are hard to fit in, because of their cost. He can take as many Skirmishers as he likes, as they're Core and cheap.

I'd run with the current list, adding in the tweaks mentioned above. It's pretty ideal for 1k battles.

Looked at the suggestions, and I've changed the BSB to have Great Weapon, Shield and Light Armour instead of the BoD (That was a slight misunderstanding of the rules on my part, I thought a BSB HAD to have a magic banner.

As I said, I haven't got the Army book yet, So I don't even know any special rules (Besides from Cold Blooded)

What is this Ld 8 aura you refer to? you realize that only the Slann can be the BSB and General at the same time?

Heavens is not a bad lore by any means, I think the Plaque is definitely the way to go here. You may not be 6dicing anything, but you're sure going to be alot easier to shut down by the dispelling player if you don't actually intend to use all your dice.

Maybe you should have looked at the pointage before talking about core requirements? One 19 FC Saurus block with 10 Skirmishers for the Priest's bunker covers it.

We're talking a 20 point difference, 10 Skirmishers aren't a cheap means of redirection either. The great advantage of the Terradons is that you can neutralize the opponents own redirection giving you a nifty tactical advantage, the increased movement rate is also very useful. They also flee farther and are tougher to kill which increases the likelyhood of them surviving. But I guess the Terradons are more a matter of taste and personal playstyle.
