Firstly, hello. First time poster, long time lurker. It took me a long time to decide on an army to go with for AoS - and a few weeks ago I decided on Seraphon.

I have purchased the following:

Start Collecting! Seraphon
Skink Starpriest
Seraphon Saurus Warriors
Seraphon Skinks

(I know I could have gotten away converting from the SC box into the Starpriest, but I love his little model so much I had to have him.)

Which I am currently in the process of building and painting the following (open to suggestions on this!):

Skink Starpriest x1 - 100
Old Blood on Carnosaur x1 - 320
Saurus Knights x5 - 120
Saurus Warriors x10 - 100
Saurus Warriors x20 - 200
Skinks x20 - 160

Edit: I think it's also possible to do an Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One using the SC box? If so that would be another 100 points.

Which comes in at exactly 1000 points. This was done on a budget and using some information found online, I don't know what level of coherency this will have on the table as I haven't gotten to play with it yet.

I have a couple of questions:

Firstly, what weapons should I attach to the units I currently have? There seem to be a few different load-out options and I haven't been able to find the decisive answer on what to go with.

Secondly, with a budget of approximately £200, what do you think I should get to go from here to 1500 and 2000 points and potentially add some more utility and power to my army.

If it helps, one of the main selling points over the other armies I was looking of Seraphon was the Dread Saurian - so eventually I would like to get that into the mix, though I appreciate that probably won't happen in a £200 budget when he would take up 75% of that budget himself.

I like dinosaurs. This is also my first AoS army, so please be gentle and apologies for any errors above. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Absolutely take one of your knights and modify, just make it stand out, it will be your scar-vet on cold one. This is a decent starting army, it gives you some range. I would pick up a second SC. That way with the converted scar-vet you have 15 knights. Go with lances for them. Another oracle to make as a chief, and a scar-vet on carno. Bastiladon is always good, and chameleon skinks, with some rippers or terradons. Then a sunblood and you should be set. If anything is left over I reccomend a starseer. When you expand later get some guard and a warden, a stegadon and a slann.

Don't forget he wants the Dread Saurian!

I'm partial to getting the Bastiladon next. I've heard it does wonders for us in battle.

And welcome to L-O!!

I'll agree with @Bowser and pick up a 2nd start collecting. That will give you a 2nd Carnosaur, a Scar-Vet and enough for 15 Knights.

Oldblood on Carnosaur 320
-Legendary Fighter
-Phoenix Stone
Scar Vet On Carnosaur 260
Scar Vet On Cold One 100
-Relic Blade
Skink Starpriest 100
5 Knights 120
-Lances
5 Knights 120
-Lances
5 Knights 120
-Lances
40 Saurus 400
-Spears
10 Skinks 80
-Boltspitters
10 Skinks 80
-Boltspitters

Bloodclaw Starhost 100

1800/ 2000

Then you are going to need a hero who is going to buff up the Saurus block. You can already use the Scar-Vet on Carno, but a Sunblood is good to have nearby for the rerolls and to add a bit more damage into combat.

Sunblood 120

1920/ 2000

Look to use the venom staff on the carnosaur for mote damage.

Sit on an objective with the suarus- use mystic shield or summon starlight for survivability.

You have 80 points left. You could drop the 2 units of Skinks and pick up an engine of the gods, or just grab ten more Skinks. Either way, you are looking at a list that totals 2000 points.

Tip: If you get the engine, you could choose to leave the top bit off, just stick it on w/ blu-tac. This will make it easier to store, but it also leaves scope for a celestial hurricanum conversion later down the road.

Okay, as a starting point for 2000 points this is what I am thinking based on the feedback so far.. Dropping the skinks in favour of 2 units of 20 warriors and 15 knights, and grabbing a Bastiladon.

Replied before I saw this, will have a read now, thank you.

Need another battleline for 2500 points so need to adjust that list.

Okay, here we go. Dropped the Chameleons in favour of cheap Skinks for a battle line boost, and had 60 points left over for a Skink Chief. Not sure if I would better off using those points on another unit of Warriors or even 5 more Knights?

Picked the Skinks initially because they're good to just throw in the way of things as far as I understand it. The main fire power of this is coming from the Dinosaurs, which I like a lot.

Working backwards now... 2000 points looking something along the lines of:

Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100)

Time to try and work out if/how I can work a Dread Saurian into 1500 points.

Is this looking reasonable or am I way off base?

Working backwards more towards 1500 points... Still trying to squeeze in the Dread Saurian but I think it might be pushing it at 1500 really. I'll probably need to try this one out.

The aim of this one is to have the Razordon protecting the Starpriest a bit from charges perhaps? And then Dinosaur stomping going on everywhere else. Aiming for big fears from the Dread Saurian and Carno's... Bravery saves should scare the enemy hopefully.

One of the reasons I like this list working from 1000 to 2500 is because the models and expansion have some cohesion for my army's story - the units remain the same, the knights just join up to become one unit, the scar-vet is still around just riding a different dinosaur etc. I think it could work well thematically too.

The warriors and skinks just take a break occasionally. Because they're tired from not getting to ride around on other lizards.

Oooh, an update to my 1500 point list with a better use for those 60 points...

Firelance Starhost (60)

Total: 1500/1500

Adds in:
  • +3 to Charge rolls for any Knight unit within 10" of their Scar Veteran
  • Deal an extra mortal wound for any wound roll of 6+ on any celestite weapon used in the combat phase following a charge; this rule is cumulative with the lance rule

Good call I was just about to say drop the razorazordon for the firelance! Great list.

On that 2500 point list, I'd drop 5 of the Knights for a Bloodclaw. Or ten Saurus.

On that 2500 point list, I'd drop 5 of the Knights for a Bloodclaw. Or ten Saurus.

I like that idea, would need to divide something to keep the 4 battlelines for 2500 then though, but maybe worth it. Certainly an option.

So in summary my shopping list is as so:

1x Start Collecting! Kit
1x Bastiladon
1x Dread Saurian
1x Saurus Sunblood
1x Skink Chief

That should cover me for all the above lists, and apart from the Dread Saurian isn't going to break the bank. Hopefully my eBay auctions sell and I can get moving on this idea.

I'll probably be able to convert the Skink Chief out of something else.

Looks like the 2500 point list isn't legal, Skink Chief isn't Seraphon so the battlelines don't count. Going to play around with it and see what I can work out.

The skink cheif has the seraphon keyword on his warscroll doesnt that make him seraphon?

I'll probably be able to convert the Skink Chief out of something else.
use the oracle from the second sc for this, one as a starpriest and the other as a chief.
