7th Ed. need help against skaven!

Hi iim neew on the and on warhammer generally, but my friend is more experienced. We have both recently started into warhammer fantasy, him being the more advanced player. im playing lm and he's playing skaven. there are some tactics on the warhammer site, but they aren't specifically against skaven. im afraid that i might lose a lot of battle, so can someone please give me some tips?

Salamanders, Salamanders, and oh yeah Salamanders They just burn up skaven hordes, and are easily my most valuable unit each time I play skaven. Also the flaming attacks will help alot against the abomination if need be.

Skink Skirmishers are a must against the DoomWheel and Hell Pit abomination. As poison shots are our only real effective way to kill big monsters. 2 10-man units of these at a minimum.

Cold One Riders will also just roll over skaven blocks(in the current ruleset at least). But stupidity can hurt.

Skink Priest with diadem is also very useful as most skaven will throw a fair bit of magic at you.

A Scar-Vet with Burnign Blade Of Chotec is also really handy, as he can easily beat most skaven heros, and again the flaming attack will help immensely against the abomination.

Terradons or Chameleon skinks to take out his warmachines, and march block.

i find the main problem is the blocks with the screaming bell or plague furnace in. frankly i'm not sure i've come up with a decent strategy against them yet. the one time i've really devestated one i got fairly lucky and got wall of fire off on it, which roasted a rather embarasingly good 2/3rds of the unit.

other than that, what Kurlin said. apart from, don't waste the salamanders against the hellpit. it's 6s to wound, and even then, it would only be a single wound off it. keep them aimed at the big blocks where you can kill a good few and maybe sneak a nice panic off.

Well salamanders on hell pit are last resort, or if they are your only flaming attack. You only need to wound it once with flaming to negate its coming back from the dead(could be first wound, could be the last wound, as long as one was flaming).

HPA is also why lore of fire on a Slann is probably a good choice Assuming you know hes going to take a HPA, or if you don't know his list.

The new skaven FAQ made it clear that a bell or furnace which is hit with the blade of realities would auto fail its test. So in 2k+ games, you will be able to plow through them pretty easy.

Assuming you don't take a slann that is. And according to a skaven tactic I read(on the underempire) they will target the hell out of any carnosaur that they see. He will be their #1 target likely because of the BoR.

Yeah, really good units/characters are like that. Just have to make sure you aren't a one trick pony if he manages to pick off your lord.

inded BoR is good vs those units, however getting it into contact with it in anything less than 3k seems a tad tricky.

against the bell i would be tempted to try a big unit of cold one riders with the oldblood also on a cold one. not so much vs. the furnace as a few bad toughness tests and half the unit's dead...

admittedly, at 2k a couple of correctly equipped priests can keep the cap on thier magic phase (though i always feel naked without becalming cogitation against skaven due to the horrible 13th)



i think overall tactics wise the best i can give is this. try and get your saurus stuck into thier infantry! skaven are one of the armies where our masses of S4 attacks really hurts.
