Hi, I am new here to Lustria-Online. I have been playing Warhammer and Lizardmen for about 5 years now. This is my current list that is being playtested for competitive tournaments. I just played a game tonight and was pleased with a massacre win vs. Orcs and Goblins

Well lets see. I am very surprised you were able to destroy those Orcs with this list.

Well Seems like it is a fast going list. But it is very easy to out manuver it. But I face alot of Bretonians and VC and Elves.

I think there is actually no Core for the army. Against the Orcs and Goblin they usually go by OutFlanking.
I think this army isn't really prepared to face the Elites of other Armies and will do bad with a very shooty army ( ELVES!!!!!)

I don't really know your style of play but i would say your putting to much of your eggs into the basket.

Despite me not being much of a fan of 2nd Gen Slann, I think this looks a really good, well balanced list. Two solid blocks of saurus, with a steg as a third "block" The krox and the CoR add a nice touch. Sallies are always useful as is that scar-vet. looks to me like you've got all the bases covered

Although ideologically I dont really agree with your list, I am going to suggest a couple things that would suit whats seems to be your armies approach.

First, I would say drop the champion from the Saurus cavalry. You are paying a hefty fee for one additional attack (that can be challenged out) which would be better spent elsewhere.

Secondly, I also would think that you could drop a couple temple guard from the slann unit. While I understand the need to defend you slann, what I will suggest will generally serve you better and will draw less attention (your unit in its current state is a HUGE magnet....which while beneficial at times is not always a good thing).

Also, switch the war banner to the slann. This will give your unit a better offensive/defensive static CR punch than the several ~temple guard that you dropped, and will be surprisingly more lasting than adding a couple expensive temple guard to beef up against missile damage.

The spare points should hopefully give you enough points to invest in a banner of Huanchi. I cannot stress how important this banner is, especially when used with skinks. The banner allows you to move behind a skink screen, and then in the movement phase move aside the skinks, march 14" and charge an additional d6" despite not having LOS at the beginning of the turn. It also has its uses in the ever speedier tournament scene in which you need to be able to outcharge other M7s. In these cases, one simply needs to let drop casually that your unit has huanchi and you will see those empire cavalry being more cautious in their approach.

With any spare points (you could drop the shield on the scar vet as well for this), i would strongly suggest upgrading one of your skink units into scouts. You need something to march block and draw away fast troops from your scar vet. This will give your scar vet more free reign in supporting your units and taking out chariots early on

@ Doom_Diver: I can see your point about being out-maneuvered. The army is rather small and the blocks are slow. I usually deploy my two blocks on the center of the table with either the Kroxigors or the Salamanders between them. The Stegaon and the Cold Ones go on one flank and usually mop it pretty clean.
2 units of Skinks go on the other flank (my buddies hate these guys!) and the other pack goes wherever they're needed. It is actually difficult to flank this army if I use terrain well. The hard-hitting flankers can get rid of a lot of things and careful placement of units means I usually get a flank charge with the Kroxigors.

@ Stonehambey: Thanks, the idea was to go for a tough list that won't be hit too hard in the composition scores. Comp. scores count for a lot where I live, sometimes being worth twice as much as actual battles points. I play a lot of TheoryHammer and from that and some playtesting I decide what type of units I need - I ended up with the JSoD and Stegadon (Both are relatively new to me, though I've used the JSoD before and not the Steg.)

@ SohCahToa: Thanks for all of the tips. I also play Vampire Counts with Blood Knights, so I'm coming to realize that, like them, the Saurus Cavalry don't need the Champion all that much. I've also come to find out that, no matter how many actual Temple Guard there are, my opponents go for that unit anyway. I think it's the actual Slann that they don't like, so I try to keep as many Temple Guard there as possible.

I like the War Banner on the Cav. It gives them some extra punch when breaking through my opponent's lines on the charge. I will play a game or two with the banner switched to the Temple Guard. Also, there usually isn't much room for me to place scouts due to lack of terrain (maybe 3 pieces on a table). That is why I have refrained from upgrading my Skinks to Scouts but again, it will need some playtesting.

Played another game tonight with this list with some slight variations. Gave the Cold Ones Haunchi's Blessed Totem and upgraded some Skinks to Scouts. It worked quite well and I achieved a solid victory vs. Bretonnians. They seem to be a pretty good match up for this army.

The turning point of the game was when the Slann blasted his General's KoTR unit with Spirit of the Forge, killing 5 of the 8 knights.

Thanks again for the suggestions guys, I think it's shaping up to be pretty competitive.

After looking at the list, I'd have to agree that its quite well balanced. While this requires caution in dealing with specific lists, it gives you the best all around playability. I'd also have to agree in observation that the 4th gen slan gives you the best chance at saving points for an "all around" list while still utilizing a good percentage of the big frogs power. Nice list, and best of luck in tourneys!
