8th Ed. Lustria Campaign- what has been your experiences?

Hello fellow forumites, I have been a long time lizardmen player and also a long time lurker here on the forum. I finally decided to become a member of this wonderful community and contribute.

This brings me to my first post. This is to ask a question. My group has recently wanted to start a small campaign and thought the Lustrian setting would be fun to use. We are starting at 500pts with a couple of group imposed regulations. The armies involved are skaven, WoC, VC, DE, Empire, and of course my lizardmen. So here are my questions:

1 : Have you played the Lustria Campaign that GW published a while ago?

2 : If so, how has your experiences been with the ruleset?

3 : Do you think it is still viable for the 8th edition rules?

Please let me know your thoughts and opinions of this campaign supplement and any changes you might suggest to the gameplay/campaign mechanics.

I have played the Warhammer Battlefields: Lustria Campaign that was recently made available. I really enjoyed it and thought it is definitely worth a try! I probably won't buy any more of these GW Warhammer Battlefields iBooks because I really don't get to play more than 20 games (if I'm lucky) a year and you can easily play through the champaign 6+ times without any repetitive scenarios (I was happy with the value received from the iBook). I see that GW is about to release their 3rd Warhammer Battlefields iBook with the Dwarfs and I think that's great! I'd recommend anyone to buy/play any of the Warhammer Battlefields campaigns based on my experience!

For your setup, there is 1 major downside: the campaign is really made for larger battles than 500pts (it says so in the rules). And after you go over all the rules, you'll really understand why. I think it works wonderful for armies 1500 pts and over.



P.S. If you are talking about the OLD Warhammer Realms: Lustria Book that GW released back during the 6th Ed., I've played through that too (it didn't really go over very well, Lustria is a dangerous place). It really didn't add many positives to gameplay (although some of the scenarios were flavorful), just more to manage and more dangers from the board than from your opponent. I liked the theme of it, but not much more (still glad I own the book because I'm in love with my old Weapon of the Old Ones/Arcanodon). I think you could still play those old armylists (very underpowered) and/or the Lustria terrain rules/scenarios with the 8th Ed. ruleset without any issue at all. It may be fun on a whim, but I wouldn't personally play lots of games in THAT Lustrian Jungle (she's a cruel mistress).

I've played the old Lustria campaign a lot actually. I think it works pretty well with 8th edition too. The only thing you'll need to really do is go through some of the places on the map and change the buffs that they give you to be more in-line with 8th edition. For example, one of places gives you access to Forked Lighting for free, but we don't have that spell anymore. If you're ok with using the old 7th edition spell it's ok, otherwise you'll need to change it to something like Uranon's Thunderbolt (which I think is more powerful).

Having 6 armies might make it a little packed on that map however. I think there are only 20 spaces. If you follow the rules for building your own map you would be better off. Maybe just make a new map of Lustria and re-draw the routes of march to be more in line with your group. And if you go to page 25 in the new LM book you can see a lot more territories and nearly drawn routes of march (the lines of power). The only thing you'll need to do is add in some special bonuses for claiming certain areas.

The Border Princes map and campaign is pretty easy too. If you can get your hands on a copy of the General's Compendium it has all the rules you'll need. Both that and the Lustria campaign are good beginner campaigns.

Thanks guys, I am really excited to start. I think there will be a little modification here and there. Oh, we are doing the 6th ed Warhammer realms version. Do you guys have any suggestions for building my army? I am kind of thinking the build of a cowboy, 15 saurus, 10 skink skirmishers, and a bastilodon.

I used to love that campaign,
as all the others out for 6th edition, that's why i'm in game group we still play that edition...
