Hey guys,

I'm going to be going to a tournament at my local GW store in the upcoming week which allows us to pick a pool of 2000pts. From there we play 3 matched play games of 1000pts. Per rules of the event, you cannot reuse units in subsequent games that are full destroyed (lost for the remainder of the event).

Below is the pool of units that i'm thinking about taking which equals 2000 points.

Leaders
Slann Starmaster (260)
Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100)
Saurus Oldblood (100) - War Spear

Units
5 x Chameleon Skinks (120)
5 x Chameleon Skinks (120)
10 x Saurus Warriors (100) -Spears
10 x Saurus Warriors (100) -Clubs
10 x Skinks (80) -Boltspitters & Star Bucklers
10 x Skinks (80) -Boltspitters & Star Bucklers
5 x Saurus Knights (120) -Blades
5 x Saurus Knights (120) -Lances
3 x Terradon Riders (140) -Sunleech Bolas

Behemoths
Bastiladon (300) (Solar Engine)
Stegadon (260) (Skystreak bow)

Other units that I have at home are as follows:

3 Kroxigor
Troglodon with Oracle
3 Ripperdactyls
15 Saurus Guard
1 Eternity Warden
Saurus Old Blood on Carnosaur
Skink Starpriest
Skin Priest

Looking for some advice on the 1000pt lists that could be used. On a side note, I was planning on using the old skinks back from the Bretonnia vs Lizardmen box set as the chameleon skinks - is that acceptable?

Thanks in advance for the help guys!

I would drop the slann in favour of the Starpriest and the rippers.
Probably start with something like this.
Leaders
Skink Starpriest (100)
Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100)

Battleline
10 x Saurus Warriors (100)
- Clubs
10 x Skinks (80)
- Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers
5 x Saurus Knights (120)
- Blades
- Seraphon Battleline

Units
5 x Chameleon Skinks (120)
5 x Chameleon Skinks (120)
3 x Terradon Riders (140)
- Starstrike Javelins

Battalions
Shadowstrike Starhost (120)

Total: 1000/1000

If you can keep your starpriest and some skinks alive you can take another shadowstrike in the second round.

I think as long as it stands out as different you might be able to get away with those skinks as your chameleons. May need to ask the tournament organizer though.

Hi Bowser,

Do you think there would be a way to run the slann and the bastiladon in a 1k comp list? I'd like to use those if possible, i know the slann may be too many points for what its worth.

Thanks!

That's a tough sell, over half your points tied up in the two units, and one is a bit squishy, though can cast some spells and offer buffs. But go big or go home, I still say you drop something for the Starpriest. I can't emphasize how much you are going to want a shadowstrike in this type of tourney.
But Monster mash it:
Leaders
Slann Starmaster (260)

Battleline
10 x Skinks (80)
- Boltspitters & Star Bucklers
10 x Skinks (80)
- Boltspitters & Star Bucklers

Behemoths
Bastiladon (300)
Stegadon (260)

Total: 980/1000

You have some big powerful units, but the downside here is not very many models, which could bite you. The stegadon will give your skinks or bastiladon some extra movement and re-rolls of 1 on the to hit.

Or you could play it a bit safer and go:
Leaders
Slann Starmaster (260)
- Artefact: Phoenix Stone
Saurus Eternity Warden (140)
Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100)
- General
- Trait: Strategic Genius

Battleline
10 x Saurus Warriors (100)
- Clubs
10 x Saurus Warriors (100)
- Clubs

Behemoths
Bastiladon (300)

Total: 1000/1000
Make the scar-vet your general, but give the slann or the scar-vet the phoenix stone. If they don't come back after dying you will need to push to keep it alive. If you want to use the slann in multiple rounds give it to him.

Thank you very much for the suggestions Bowser! For the Shadowstrike battalion do you prefer Terradons or Rippers? When you run Rippers and lets say chama skinks, i'm assuming you have to declare that they are "hidden" at the start of the game? my apologies, i haven't really used those units quite yet.

I prefer the rippers, it's a lot of damage, but would take the terradons if I knew the other guy had war machines. You must declare that they start off the board.

Basically right on your intended target. If you don't have a specific target, then just an area of the board you want to control. They usually will avoid the toad at all costs.

This is an awesome set up for a tournament, so definitely want to know how it all goes for you.

Bowser, can the blot toad move in any direction? or is it just stuck moving "forward". The wording on the war scroll says: "In each of your movement phases, roll a dice and move the blot toad up to that many inches"

Moves any direction, so feel free to chase people around.

That is hilarious - little toad chasing units! :P - thanks for clarifying that.. in your experience do most of they tourney run the rule of one? I'm asking in regards to the rippers.

Oh yeah, most tournaments will keep the rule of one in place, very few will modify it for clarity. But expect it to be in full force.

Bowser, is there an appropriate way for using the 10 skinks with blowpipes? I used them in a test game and they seemed to be less than effective.. also - i found out that some of the other armies will be: Death, Khorne Bloodbound, Tomb Kings, and Skaven.

You use them to block really, they won't last long, but you should be able to set yourself up for a charge, if you get first activation you can use the wary fighters to run off, so that they can shoot into combat next round. It gets quite fristrating when they can't get to their target because of this little unit of skinks that just runs away anyway.

Good to know, is there a preference on taking the first turn with the shadowstrike? I'm assuming its going to be situational but just wanted some feed back on that aspect.

With this set up using the regular skinks, there is some advantage to taking first turn, your skinks can move up to objectives, and if the opponent isn't castled up, your rippers can pick a first turn assassination without issue, but having the chance at a double turn after your rippers strike may just seal the game for you. Depending on what the opponent vrings to the table of course.

Thanks Bowser! the day is almost here! - i'll be sure to let you know how it goes i appreciate your help.

Bowser - last piece of advice.... having a hard time deciding the rest of the 1k pool. I have the first 1k which the shadowstrike host. Now, I was potentially thinking of this:

Eternity Warden

Saurus guard x 5
Saurus guard x 5
Saurus guard x 5

Kroxigor x 3

Bastiladon

Eternal Starhost

Would that be wise?
