8th Ed. LONG TIME, NO SEE. Back with new List 3k

Been a LONG TIME since i was on here. however with our precious Lizzies getting a revamp i felt it was time to return with a new 3k list for your perusal.

Not got my book yet but with the release i have this list for consideration:

Slaan takes high, joins the 36 saurus.
This and the other unit form the main battle line. (out of interest with spears now a free upgrade do people fancy them now? still leaning towards the parry save of HW/S.)
these are flanked by bastildons and stegs.
rippers are the chaff/warmachine hunters
Vet on Rex is for hitting support and bullet magnet.
Sallies for some horde control

Thoughts please guys.

Replace saurus for 20 TG 6 wide, 4 long, place the slann in the middle, he automatically passes his LOS test in a TG unit! they are now 7ss each instead of 8ss in the 7th ed so for 20 with full command it is 310 points

Scar-vet on t-rex.. i think he's far to expensive to be a cannonmagnet and it would be dead before dealing any damage (that's where a carnosaur is made for), replace it by an oldblood on cold one, piranha blade, armour of destiny (no shield you will have already a 1+ save).. is 210 points so a total of 655 on your lord choice.. the result is an oldblood with a 1+ armour save, 4+ wardsave, D3 multiple wounds (with PF and WS 5, 5 attacks on S5 which can be boosted by lore of beasts if you have the right spells with the priest, read further for the ideas with the priest, a monster and character killer)

This is at least as effective as your current list, but 219 points cheaper.. you can add 4 cold ones for oldblood support for 15ss each.. with 99 points remaining you can add a lv2 skinkpriest lore of beasts for only 1 point more..

Your slann don't need a dispell scroll, give it to your skink priest, and add harmonic convergence to your slann with a channeling staff.. 3D6 channeling on 5+, normally each turn 1 channel.. High magic is ok, but replace a spell like tempest for a roll on the lore of heavens and replace the spell to iceshard blizzard, combine with hand of god on the same unit to reduce D3 WS and with luck you make a basic core unit hit on a 5+ or 6+ in cc against your WS3 units..

Swap one unit rippers for an unit of terradons, rippers have frenzy and have to charge the closest enemy unit.. A terradon is less random for warmachine hunting then a ripperdactyl.. make a unit of 3 instead of 4, gives you an additional 70 points to spend, use the rest of the points for 2x10 skinks, drop your priest in one of the units and use the rest for units like mangler squigs or just be annoying!

Not sure because i don't know how they act in battle but two bastiladons with solar ark, maybe is an additional skink priest better with lore of beasts, good for boosting your character (pann's inpennetrable pelt, savage beast of horus, wyssan's wildform or even amber spear for monster hunting)

TG were a fav of mine in my old list, however dropping a full saurus unit effects my minimum core selection and the 20 or so skinks you mention later on do not cover the required 750 points.

Hmmmmm, i know the OB/CO combo is good, but i cannot stand the CO models, plus the carno allows me to take on monsters which my army could struggle against. combining a carno with the worlds spell means i can get him into a very threatening position very early, then his charmed shield should ignore the first cannon and should live to charge turn 2. As i said i was thinking about a skink preist with steg mount. if i took one then he would carry the scroll.

Being my only caster as it stands, i'm not sure i need extra channel attempts as he will be getting most of dice anyway unless i really want to fire both solar engines that turn.

I don't see frenzy being much of an issue really, as with a 20" fly move i should be able to ensure the closest unit is the one i want them charging.

the idea of having 2 is to ensure both my main units are covered for the buff, that and they are extra big gribblys for the enemy to worry about.

When replacing the saurus for TG, i didn't tought about the minimum core of 750, excuse me for that.. but your idea was to boost the saurus with a bastila, if you remove one of those, you can remove your bastiladon, adding more saurus (thinking about a 50 (10 wide, 5 long) saurus horde with FC for 580 points) you only need to fill 100 points of core right now, what should not be a big job.. Maybe remove salamanders (think you don't need, they have move or fire now and are pretty expensive) you can make 2x30 saurus of it 3 long, 10 wide of 6 wide 5 long.. what you want!

Want the rippers to charge the closest enemy, hmm could be a good tactic, but if you do so, you have to charge when the enemy is within 22 (maximum charge range) what would be very quick, maybe after his first movement and i think 4 ripperdactyl don't deal that much damage against this horde edition of warhammer, they will be steadfast and kill you to fast.. 8 wounds at toughnes 3 isn't that hard! I think they are better when using them as a supporting unit to flankcharge a unit which is in combat with your saurus..

and if you use no terradons who's gonna kill the warmachines now? The idea of the carnosaur I also like, never thaught about that, but it is in my opinion very expensive and easy to kill! Charming shield only covers your scar-vet (with only two wounds) and for cannonballs you have to allocate 1-4 is carno! so easy target.. if you want to use the carno, bring ironcurse icon for a bit defense against warmachines!

TG are good no doubt, but i'm not sure they are a better choice than saurus as i get more number for my points. what i might do is only take one bastildon deployed in between the 2 saurus units so both gain the benefit. then i could use the points on something else.

I must admit you may have a point with the sallies now. i was considering dropping them for either 3rd Ancient steg or possibly the new troglodon. thoughts on this? anybody used one yet?

With bloat toads rippers can potentially have 5-6 attacks each so i think they could prove awesome. plus you can test to restrain and not charge, keep them close early game and they are testing on the slaans Ld.

i i think i'm going to look at 2 units of camo skinks using the points from the dropped bastildon.

i fully agree he's not the most competitive choice, but he will munch most things he's runs into.

And to be fair my list has a lot of viable targets and will possibly give my opponent too much to deal with.

Yesterday I played my first game and those ripperdactyls were heavy hitting, but the best way to use them is 1. Flank your enemy in the same turn you charge with another unit, i had 8 attacks out of 3 rippers, my opponent was really impressed by their power..
Because they are that easy to kill outflanking will makes them good, because your opponent is only able to do damage with a few models!

I used my signature loremaster slann and two lv2 beast wizards, the combination of curse of anraheir, iceshard blizzard and melkoths mystifying miasma is awesome! And when you use wyssan's wildform on your saurus warriors, you lose same models when using lore of life with +4 toughness boost, just because he won't hit you!

My opinion with a bastiladon is use your power in the middle of your magicphase, for de +1 initiative boost, when downgrading initiative, WS, BS and movement with mystifying miasma. Or you are fighting at the same initiative or saurus who strike first (FIRST TIME I WERE ABLE TO DO SO!!!)
But only then a bastiladon is viable, so if you can use this tactic i say yes to bastiladon, else no..

Troglodon (Trololodon hehe ) could be viable for for one turn.. predetory fighter on a 5+ will allow you to make many attacks with a huge block of saurus warriors! You could give it a try, further it is an almost worthless choice!

Chamo's are more expensive, but viable!

The sword is for a bit of fun as a lot of players round my way like their character death stars, so could be funny when they rock up with 3-4 characters then realise they are making my Slaan a bit of a beast.

My monster mash. These guys combined with the scar vet are going to cause a lot of people a lot of problems. Still weighing up whether it’s worth finding points for a EOTG. My instinct says no but has anyone used one yet? Opinions on it?

Doesn't the iron curse icon get overruled by the standard 4+ ward ? because i cant remember the icon stacking..

Quite right the slaan's ward is better and does not stack for 3+.

However it does give his 46 saurus mates a 6+ ward against warmachines that might target the unit.

very much so. only needs to make one 6+ save the the item has saved over doubles the points it cost.

Any thoughts on the rest of the list?
