8th Ed. Lizardmen VS High Elves

Hi every one, I'm a new by of this forum and I want your opinion about a possible army list to fight against some very-fast-pointed-hears-bastards ; we will use army of 2.000 points.


General: Slann Mage-Priest with Cupped Hands, Curse-charm, Focus of Mystery (Lore of Death), Rumination, Becalming Cogitation and Harrowing Scrutiny (495 points).

Core Troops:
2x Skink Skirmishers with 12 models each one: blowpipe (84 + 84 points).

1x sKrox with 27 skinks and 3 kroxigor: full command (332 points).

Special units:
1x Temple Guard with 20 models: full comand, Blood Statuette (champ), Plaque of Dominion (430 points).

1x Chameleon Skinks with 10 models: blowpipe (120 points).



What do you think could be the best way to spend my 455 points left? What do you think have to be changed? Thank you.

maybe a stegadon to charge his spearmen and too draw his arrows on him(so the skinks will survive) and some salamenders too flame them

those elves kills skinks in masses however thats not the way it works with saurus
saurus loose on average 22,666 points while skinks loose 30
skrox kill 3,75 elves while saurus 6,66 that is with spears and such a unit would cost 390 maybe 330
but i would suggest that you cut down on your tg and skinks and how many bolt throwers does he bring? if 1-2 you only need 5-6 chameleons and you should not care about archers
scrutiny is a waste of points
and the main reason for taking a death slann is to give enemy general -3 ld and then flame him and also having a stegadon use it so that he will take fear/terror tests on ld 6 (with rerolls but still)

take 2 x 25 hand weapon saurus 0 tg youre having a death slann he wants to manouvre armound and see all the targets and against H.E. you dont need to worry about shooting he needs 18 heavy bolt shots and you have charms 5 maybe 2 x 5 charms 2 x 1 salamander 1 steg if you have more points take more sallies

I fear 4°level wizards with lore of shadow and book (which let him cast spells with irresistible force with every double, not only 6) put in the unit with 4+ safe ward (right now I can't remember it's name, I'm sorry); so I tought to use the Slann to shoot him down with direct damage (so I chose the curse-charm) or with my first miscast (cupped hands). More: a lot of wounds inflicted means a lot of possibilities to regain some dices (some skiks priests to cast some lightning/comets???)

Suggested Changes:

2x Saurus Warrior with 20 models: full command (250 + 250 points).

Special Units:

2x Chameleon Skinks: blowpipe (60 + 60 points).

Rare Units:

2x Salamander Hunting Pack with two Salamanders (150 + 150 points).


205 points left; a bsb slann? some heroes?

Maybe you can put two more salamenders(150) in make the slann BSB(20) with a magic standart(35)

Against elves, I like the lore of light. That will protect you against the Initiative tests that are bound to come your way. I would also take a skink priest with the forbidden rod. This will allow you to add d6 to your power pool. I usually equip that priest with a 4+ ward vs the first wound. I will not give this priest a lvl2 upgrade because he may or may not be able to cast.

In a perfect world, you will get off Birona's timewarp and Speed of Light so that you can turn the elves own trick against them (re-rolling misses in combat). Also, do not over look light of battle. An auto pass of any leadership test within 12 inches can be pretty powerful when using skirmishers as a screen.

I once used light of battle on a salamander unit that ended up running down a Brittonian knight unit (with a general).

Consider having an ethereal slann with MR2 that makes you invulnerable to non-magic and a 2+ ward against magic damage spells.

I agree with the extra sallies, he will fear them so much that they will need something to survive the shooting. If not more sallies then take some water terrain if you can for the extra point of shooting defense or just go for normal woods/walls/rubble.

Core Troops:

2x Saurus Warrior with 20 models: full command (250 + 250 points).

1x Temple Guard with 20 models: full comand, Blood Statuette (champ), Plaque of Dominion (430 points).

2x Chameleon Skinks with five models: blowpipe, brave (66 + 66 points).

Rare Units:

2x Salamander Hunting Pack with three Salamanders (225 + 225 points).


TOT 1997 points

You will not, because if both combatants have ASF, the ASF is cancelled out. I believe they then strike in I order - I may be incorrect on that one, but you definitely won't get to reroll misses.

I am not convinced that champions in units without characters are worth it in 8th edition with the step forward rule. They were worth it in 7th as they ensured you got some attacks when the other side attacked first, now I generally prefer the extra model.

Plaque of dominion is also a bit expensive in 8th where most magic users will be in range of a BSB to get a re-roll on their stupidity test.

Look up rules for magical vortices to see why death isn't the best lore for a slann in a TG unit (casting purple sun will kill 3-4 of your TG each successful casting).

I have taken Lore of Death several times (3 I think). I have tried to cast the Purple Sun spell twice. It has killed that slann twice too! The third time that I took the lore, I did not cast Purple Sun. I cast the other spells in the lore to successfully gain additional casting die for my Life slann. Used in that fashion, it is well worth it. I will never cast Purple sun on a slann again.

About champions: i want to try their usefulness in units without character (or characters), usually i play my saurus unit with a scar vet in.
I rarely chose the Plaque of dominion because too often enemy wizards don't became stupid, but this time I can cast doom and darkness on his units


I chose Lore of Death, most of all, to kill characters and monsters (and because I like this lore and I want to try to use it), to this purpose I have 3 spells; also: hexes could reduce S, T and Ld (also concede cause terror special rule). I never thought to play xereus. I was considering some skink priest to use death's extra dices...but I have finisched my points "-_-
Saurus and TG will try to be in CC as soon as possible, salli and chamo will try topreventing elfs support units to work properly and kill warmachine.
