Hey everyone,
Hey guys, I got some planning to do and was wondering if you could help me out. I have an upcomming game of Warhammer comming up at the 2250 teir and did not know if someone could do a quick lookie through on my 2 lists and see which one is more viable before I decide on which one to take. My current playstyle is go wild and grab some of the nastiest units and smash face with them. So I would like the lists to do the talking. So here we go!

So what do you guys and gals think? I did not include numbers becuse of GW legality and not having rulebook on hand so numbers ould be a bit off. But I assumed you folks would know about avg what the points cost is. So without addue let the critics come and speak.

Well you only have one 'Legal' problem with this part. That being you can not take the Glyph Necklace twice.

Otherwise I'd say I'd say your hero selection is strong both magically and close combat wise. It's a bit on the pricey side though which is a concern. Putting some many points into so few models presents a problem if your character is able to kill off your characters very quickly. Over half your army is tied up in characters alone (scary). But other than dropping the points on mounts I'd say instead of two DS I'd trade one for the Diadem of Power for a little more edge in magic defense.

This is probably the most worring part of your list. Though Skink Skirmishers are the shizz you have absolutely no staying power in your army. Blocks of Saurus, even unit's of 12, are a nessesity in most cases unless your running an all skink army. Without that anvil aspect to your list you'll run into problems your not likely to over come as your opponent blasts your monsterous mounts and cheap skirmishers to bits.

A good unit. Protection from shooting is nice. But if your going to depend upon their close combat and combat resolution they will build I would drop the SSoC and go with the simple and cheap War Banner.

Same legality issue as I mentioned before about the Glyph Necklas. Also, you do realize that when the Skink Priest takes a Stegadon it's ALWAYS the Ancient w/ EotG. So basically it's the exact same build as before.

Both of these units are excellent choices. The Terradon Rider unit is a bit large IMHO. I usually only run units of three. Perhaps if you have the 30 extra points you could run 2 x 3 units.

It seems that your lists are pretty much exactly the same besides the addition of the Salamander and Terradons in your second list. I'm not sure if you added these units because of the point differance between an EotG and a regular Steg. If that's the case, as I mentioned before Skink Priests can only ride EotG (except for the special 'horned one' magic item which is actually a 'smart' Cold One.

Admittaly there are some typos in the lists.
First off they are both Steggo Spam lists, Just grab as much steggo for your points.

List 1: This is the Carnosaur option. Im not sure what an effective build you can give the Carno Lord hence the choices.
List 2: This is the Steggo / CO style. Reenforece the Co's with a unit with decent leadership and mobility
Skinks: I know they are about as strong as wet tissue. However the only time I use them is for Screens. I know they wont stay around. I just need someone on the front lines fast and cheap. Better than buying the ranked versions.
Glyph Necklace: Will trade that in. Just only thing that came to mind as a point filler.
Cav Units: Warbanner you say? I was using these guys to make sure I get in there and start killing things fast.
Terradon vs Salamander: Yeah thats the biggest typo Ive seen its supposed to be OR, Seeing I was dropping another hero (went over my 4 member limit) needed some fillers and knew Terradons costed about 90 points, so ditch the salamander and increase the number of flyers. That way I can rush to those WM faster.

Its pretty much a quick run through MS word. =)
 
Well the massed steg list is something to frighten oppoents when your playing. A couple of things to watch out for when taking a list like that;

Tournaments will give you a really bad army comp. so you probably wouldn't want to try and take that sort of a list to a tourny (although I think it would be fun!!))

EotG is not something you want in CC unless your smashing in one or two other stegs at the same time. The impact hits and the steg's attacks are nice but it'll only takes two good hits in and two bad armour saves to negate EotG (by way of killing the priest, you can't use the EotG).

Now, having said those, I've dreamed about taking a steg army! The only thing keeping me is money and the fact that I'd rarely use a list such as that. If you can field that many stegs then I high five you bro!

I'm still adament in my belief that you need some Saurus support for your army. I'm just really worried that you don't have enough staying power without them. Even a single unit would greatly improve your chances. But as it's been said before, play test and see what you like. You may find that you don't need Saurus or you may find you can't live without their ugly hides!

I usally dont do Tourney's. If we usally do them we do 2250 doubles. However I prefer being a casual smash face guy. Hence the big and heavy list and not magic shooty. I do have one in mind, however Im going to use Slaan / Chakax synergy. Just not enjoying Movement 4. If I do have to enter CC, most of the time with a list like this I would trigger "Sprinkler of Death" abilty from the EOTG and then progress therough the phases, one of the reasons why I got the SSOC for extra shooting resist. The Chief is pretty beastly with the extra impacts. thats one of the resaons why I was thinking of using a Carno, for Duels and leader removal so I can force check with ease. Or go mobilty with the Cavs. Sarus warriors will probably make it into the Slann / TG list. But right now Im tapped for the cash seeing I got 3 stegs in 1 month =(. So which list did you prefer Carno or no Carno. If I go with carno, Im going to try and get a decent insta-kill build going yes Blade of Reality + Drums might make an apperence.
So yeah, I like this thred good conversation so far.
 
If it's a choice between carno and no carno I'll choose carno. It's a great unit to field and really lends to the destructive nature of the army.

Will start re-tooling list now for some Carno / Steggo spam. Anything lcoking in CC should just be removed off the table. Good luck for VC & TK players. Your gonna be burning dice left and right.

I decided to retool the list again. And took some suggestions to even it out. So here we go again. This list looks like its going to have a tad bit more survivalbility for it. Decided to cut down on the big unts so I can give my infantry a few extra spots to help carry out the Old Ones plans. So lets try this one out?

Don't post point values for units. It's a violation of GW copy right laws and against forum rules.

Well you don't really have any infantry support for your One infantry unit out there. It's also bad that your One infantry support is also the expensive body guard unit to your expensive general. While TG are renown for holding their own and being uber tough, against combined charges they won't hold forever.

To remedy this I suggest at least another block (preferably two) of around 15-18 saurus. These formations would lend a lot of good weight to your army. Because you don't want your EotG to get into any fights it only leaves you with you CoC. That means you've only got two fighty units on your hands. Against ANY other army out there this spells doom.

Also, just a comment. But any opponent you go up against will raise all kinds of hell for taking two EotG along with a Slann. 12 PD to start with is pretty hard core, not counting the two unstoppable EotG shots and the free power dice per spell your Slann will be spitting out.

the comment about the 2 engines was what I had in mind. I also wanted inset of CC fighting, more devestation so I re-tooled for magi in mind. Im going to drop the fliers and increase point limit so I can fit in those 2 groups of 15 sarusus. Spears or no Spears?
I know Death stars usally are running aorund the tables at the LGS. So 2+ engines shouldnt be an argument when you got guys like Archeon running around in with knights and 40 + dire Wolves supporting VC with his Black knights.
 
If your not overly concerned with the huge amount of magic then I'd say go for it. Your only downfall you might find with that many points tied up in those three models is that it really limits the size of your army.

Definately go with spears! 24 hits (in a unit six wide) is nothing baulk at, especially when it comes to lizardmen strength four!
 
I'd suggest dropping one EotG and using the points for a couple of blocks of Saurus. They'd give a good base for your army to feed off of and provide stability for your flankers to work from.
 
that comment I posted a bit earlyer was a tad outta line m8.
also, but wouldent I lose my effectivness in the magic phase if I lose an engine. Feels odd with only 1 EOTG running around.
Also, This just dawned on me hence the edit. But I can use Skink Priest #2 with his magic items run around in one of the sarus warriro groups right. That way he can still have some form of protection.
 
You will lose one spell level and the EotG's special ability. However the two hundred - odd points you'll gain back will be invalueable.

And yes you can definately add the priest in with saurus for protection!

Well im back and I added two groups of 15 Saurus warrirors with them sharpened sticks. And 24 attacks in nothing to moad about when your playing against humans with spears. Nice my 2 ranks can fight no prob and still keep ticking after getting skeward.

Now, How about the Skink Priest #2?
Seeing he is not on the engine anymore, would the staff be neccesary seeing hes going to be on the front line? Or should I switch him out for some other gear.
 
Well the staff is a nice item, and since it's still got 25 points for magic items you could give him the cloak of feathers. This allows him to fly and thus you can use him to snipe war machines/ lone characters. Plus with that kind of movement you can more easily put him into position to get those channeled magic missle spells where you need them!
 
I wrestle with the multi steg issue myself. I am pretty new and just building an army, so I have to ask myself when a solid list ends and cheese begins. I think one steg is always fine, two is alright if they aren't both carrying the EOTG, and three or more (or 2 plus a carnasaur) is pretty clearly cheesy. Sure some lists will tear you apart, but its still cheese. It doesn't matter that a dwarf gunline could take advantage of your weaknesses if you are running 4 giant nasty terror causing dinosaurs through a horde of (soon to be fleeing) orcs. I can't help but think that lists like these will no longer be legal when 8th edition gets here in July.

That being said if you are playing against a cheesy opponent (or demons), anything goes. Also if your in a higher point game than this you could bring more. If you are bringing more than one in a sub 2k point list its probably cheese as well IMO.
 
well, I know this might not go over well. However I decresed the number of saurus (Sauroi) down to groups of 2 ranks of 6 each. So 12 total members. With the points I can gain some upgrades or Warbanner. Is their a max ammount of magic warbanners? Ive already got 3 (1 Slaan , 1 COC, 1 TG). Just curious.
 
You can only have one war banner and unless you put your BSB in a saurus unit they can not carry magic banners.
