AoS I'm new, how should i start?

Hi guys,

I am a new player who had some seraphon models for painting and now I want to get into the game. Thusfar I have :
15 saurus guard + eternity warden
1 saurus scar vet on carnosaur
1 skink starpriest
1 skink priest
10 saurus warriors with clubs
5 saurus knights with spears
bastilladon with solar engine

I also have a stegadon kit that I have yet to build, Is a the engine of the gods better or the skystreak bow?
I would love some help with further purchases since I don't know much of the faction. I was thinking about getting a slann or lord kroak (which is better?) and converting a astrolith bearer. Then I was wondering if I should get another start collecting box to go for a saurus route, which i like a bit more then skinks but as far as I gathered aren't really good at the moment, or get some skinks and some other units?

Some list building and buying advice would be welcome!
PS: ENglish isn't my first language so sorry if I made mistakes :)
 
I cannot help you with your question because I haven't played in a while, but the least I can do is say

ok so for your questions EotG is a great suport peice that keeps other monster in the fight for a long time, he does great work but he needs a groop of monsters to be the core of.
at the moment base slann is probably better kroak can do work but he isn't as beginner friendly.
as much as it pains me to say it saurus are very much struggling at the moment, you would be better served by running monster spam, salamanders(yes i know they are ugly) or skinks

Thanks for the swift reply! How would one build a skink list? I'm not very interested in pure big dino spam. I'll go for a slann and some skinks for now but I'll pick up kroak later since the model is awesome. Would that be enough to build a beginners list to get some games in? Also is the battlethome outdated? Some of the rules seem to have changed :/
 
If you like the look of new kroak, I’d suggest getting him and magnetising him (plus the little skink on his chair, if the part can cleanly be detached like that).

That way you can build a chair out of spare parts and run him as a normal Slann whenever you want, and if you’re running him as Kroak you can put his skink in the chair instead and run it as a starseer (or a priest, or a star priest, if you’re putting them on a smaller base). For starborne skink lists all those models are good fits

yes the tome is out of date, this tends to happen after any length of time as GW tries to fix it's mistakes.
as for what to bring kraxagor are good but the models are difficult to work with. 2 big blocks of skinks supported bt priests and starpriests and backed up by 10 man skinks and krox/salamanders would get you a long way

Thanks for the reply, I will pick up 2 boxes of skinks then and some krox or sallies
 
Between steg and EotG, your first model should absolutely be a Steg.
Plus, if you're interested in skinks lists, che Skink Chief on Stegadon is definitely a must

I say a slann should be the next one since magic superiority is kind of a big deal to us
