7th Ed. I need some advice on tactics and deployment

I have made some good armies, but I feel like I am doing something wrong. I have a big problem not caring about how i deploy. I always seem to deploy a strong center line all the time, and it ends up doing well or not. then i strengthen one flank and the leave the other somewhat lacking. Does anyone have any advice? I also Have been having a problem letting things go in a game and it gets my goat. I have tried to let it slide off of me, but some times it just gets to me. What do some of you guys do to relax when things start to go bad?

Deployment is entirely dependant on your list, and it definitely is important. It also depends on the terrain, and to a degree what your opponent is fielding. You don't want to end up being too reactive to their deployment if you can help it though, because it puts you on the backfoot early.

It is one of the most important parts of the game, a poor deployment can put you in a terrible position so it is definitely worth thinking about and possibly even drawing up a few deployment plans on paper for your army well before the battle. The main things to remember are make sure your army is working togetyher and supporting each other not getting in each others way, and make sure your units aren't too badly matched against what is directly opposite them, or that there is decent support nearby.

I love to run a carnisaur, saurus blocks, skink support, engine, and a steg. Then fill in the areas with other units. Right now I am running a foot slogging list with major skink support. to get back to basics. I tested it aginst a brand new deamon player and got the piss beaten out of me I was a bit of a sore loser on that one.

You need to treat the game less seriously, treat it as a bit of fun and enjoy it. Sure it sucks to get belted, but it can turn around. When you are losing, focus on the heroics of the 1 or two units that are actually doing something or holding out for as long as they can and enjoy it.

Deployment for you... Hmm decide whether you want the carnosaur to be a support unit and go for flanks or the centre of the army. If it doesn't take the centre of the line, a saurus block should. Support them with the stegs off to either side and skinks wherever you think you need them (ie. flank or opposite warmachines). Looks pretty similar to the type of list I will be running, I haven't tried to deploy them yet though still assembling and painting. Actually it will be the first time I have played a list aside from my Spartan High Elves in a couple of years, and they have the same army composition every time so I deploy them in pretty much the same way every game to work off each other and to the game as I want them to.

nice little trick to use is make a scar-vet your general. They have the same LD as your oldblood. This will allow you to move the carnisour around more and keep you need LD8 in the middle of the army, also a BSB in the middle could really help.

when i started i was really poor at deployment so i would ask my opponent at the end of the game what he may have done.

also a solid center with 2 saurus blocks, and bsb is a great start just protect the flanks. after that experience and how the board plays out really can change every thing
