I have recently come back from WHFB after a few years removed from the game. I missed all of 7th edition, and from what I understand potentially most of 8th edition. I have recently bought the Battalion box and the 8th ed. Lizardmen book, but now as I contemplate buying the 8th BRB I have to wonder if in 2 months it will become invalid due to the release of 9th ed.

I have seen on this site and a few others that 9th edition is expected to be released sometime this year, possibly by May. So should I drop $60 on the 8th ed. BRB and then run the very real risk of my wife not letting me get the 9th if it is released a short time later? How imperative is the BRB to building an army, given that most of the rules and terms needed are available online?

I assume whomever I play at my local hobby store will have a BRB, or at the least the hobby store will have one we could reference.

Nor for sure, but I thnk 9th edition migh still be almost a year away, if you are woried perhaps you could get a friend to load you a copy untill then ?

Alternative idea.

The Skaven vs HE kit comes with a small paperback rulebook, which works, find it on Ebay? it can't be too expensive compared to the huge hardback original.

Yeah, the small book is about £20 off ebay. I bought one so I could put together army lists and hope to get a few games in once I've built my army, but I expect I'll probably just finish painting by the time the new book comes out :p

Wow, I can't believe I didn't think of the SRB. I found a buy it now on eBAY for 24.99. Thanks.
