How to stop a game from updating?

Hello everyone, there has been a problem with steam recently. When I boot my PC, Steam starts updating all the games automatically. Sometimes my computer slows down and sometimes hangs a lot. I want to disable Steam to update the game automatically in any way. Can anyone advise me on how to stop Steam from updating the game? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
