AoS How do I use a Troglodon?

I've played a few games now with my army, I'm doing fairly well but I'm finding it hard to get any real use out of my Troglodon. Pretty much every battle it deals a few wounds with it's spittle attack, then promptly misses every single attack when it gets into combat and dies.

I really love the model and I would love to get the most out of it. What have you guys done to get a good game out of one?

The Trog is far too fragile to stand in proper combat like the Carnosaur, you want it against low-quality high-numbers units like Skaven and Zombies. Heavy units will tear it to shreds.

Basically you want to move and shoot, use it for unbinding spells and boosting the range of your slann's spells. Giving you a 33 inch range on your spells instead of 18. Giving you more options for wounds or buffing your guys behind enemy lines.

Yeah, it's a mobile arcane vassal, with a nice missile weapon and that is not so fragile as standard skink priests.
Primeval roar can be marginally useful, but CC should be avoided, unless aimed toward not-heavy targets

Thank you all! Sadly it looks like I might not be able to properly use it then in my games Everyone I play has super heavy troops like ogres or stormcast. Plus we only typically play on a 2x2 grid of game tiles. Basicly any toop is only one movement and a charge away from combat...not much room to get out of the way.

I will keep all your advice in mind Hopefully, despite the restrictions of my games, I can get a good use out of him

Thank you all! Sadly it looks like I might not be able to properly use it then in my games Everyone I play has super heavy troops like ogres or stormcast. Plus we only typically play on a 2x2 grid of game tiles. Basicly any toop is only one movement and a charge away from combat...not much room to get out of the way.

Sadly, short room to manoveur can be a problem, and it also limits the usefulness of the vassal.
Heavy troops make mandatory for your dino to avoid CC... but the roar becomes worthwhile, given that each model that run away is much more valuable.
Of course, Ogres and Sigmarines have ways to avoid shock tests , but they cannot protect all their units...

I find it works best alongside a regular Carnosaur; Torglodon roar stacked with a Saurus banner and the Carnosaur's roar makes even the bravest army suffer in the battleshock phase.

To be fair, they work nicely together, but they don't stack.
Primeval Roar lowers the Bravery (not the dice's result of the battleshock test). It stacks with all Stardrake Icons' effects.
Bloodroar is a confrontation between rolled dices, and the result of the enemy's dice, is not lowered by the primeval roar.

Oh I'm aware, I just use the term stacked because the effects do benefit one another greatly. If you have all three near one unit, which really isn't too hard to do; then your opponent is damned if they roll high, because of the Trog roar and Icon, and damned if they roll low because the Carnosaur roar is easier to pull off.
