8th Ed. Help with where to go.

Here is what I have inherited. I would like advice on two things:

1) What magic items would you recommend. I am new to the Lizardmen, so am unsure here.

2) What would you add to this to bring it to 2500 points. I need to use what I have, as money is not exactly pouring out of my ears, so I am truly looking at additions, not replacements.

I have:

1 Slann
1 Skink Priest
24 Saurus with spear and shield
1 Scar Veteran/Old one one Cold One
8 Cold One Cavalry with spear and shield
12 Skinks with blowpipes
12 Skinks with javelin and shield

I have screwed around with this and have been able to squeak 1500 pts with this.

I suggest you take a look at some 2500 points army lists in this forum and go from there.
There are some pretty decent lists on this forum.

Yeah, with what you have, you could maybe squeeze 1750. But it wouldnt be great.

I know grabbing more guys is hard for you right now, but in 2500 you would need easily another 25 saurus, a stegadon, some salamanders, chameleon skinks temple guard etc etc. But if you stick to 1500. You could get some great games

A slann should always have Cupped hands of the old ones. Making an enemy suffer your miscast is ever so satisfying. At 1500 give him 2 disciplines and cupped hands. Normally, you'd stick him in Temple guard. But as you dont have any, you could run the solo slann build. Make him ethereal and give him magic res. Thats him with a 2+ ward against magic lol

Check ebay for some deals. And welcome to the Lizardmen. LD on 2D6 will never be the same again!

Okay, so I don't have my book with me, but I know I can get the money to buy 20 temple guard. In the long run I want 30 (I think). I also want to get 4-5 more cold ones to bring the unit up a bit. 8 seems a bit low. With the Temple Guard, am I pushing it too hard to reach 2000pts. I know it can be done, but is it worth it, or should I add the cold one nights in as well?

I run 20 TG in any bracket I have my slann even 2k. They rule. 30 wouldn't be overdoing it in my books, it'd just be doing it well, though 20 is perfect if you run light or life XD

With the cold ones. Lots of people dont like them. I've just recently put them in 2500 and they've done ok. 8 seems to work for me, but it doesn't break ranks when they flank, which doesnt bother me. If you really like them and want more, go get more! Never let what other people like or don't like make you drop a unit, even more so if that unit has 16 S5 attacks on the charge
