8th Ed. Help with Throne of Skulls 2000pts army list for a newbie!

Hey guys, I have never really attempted to play competitively in the past, but I am going to Throne of Skulls later this year and would love some help coming up with a 2000pt list!

I have a problem in that I love my Carnosaur XD I get told he isn't competitive a lot but Ihe looks so awesome, I must have him in my list! I have 2 of every single Monster in the book, 140 Saurus, 50 Skinks, a Slann, loads of characters, 30 Temple Guard, 24 Cold One Riders, 3 Terradons and 3 Ripperdactyls. I have always played Monster Mash so far and I love it. Can anyone give me any suggestions/sample lists? I would appreciate it

How about showing us one or two of your previous incarnations of lists just to give us an idea on what you're after?

Also for the tournament players it might be good of you to specify whether you intend to win, or just be competitive and have fun?

Ok, so to start with, I would like to win. But I must use my Carnosaur! (I am not averse to buying a second) and I love the idea of a monster mash. My list so far -

Slann - BSB, standard of discipline, obsidian amulet, channelling staff, harmonic convergence, Higher state of consciousness, lore of light

Scarvet - Carnosaur, Bloodroar, Light armour, Great Weapon, Ironcurse Icon

Scar get - Cold one, Great Weapon, Dawnstone, Dragonhelm, Light Armour, Potion of foolhardiness

42 Saurus w/ command

10 skink skirmishers w/ champ

Engine of the gods w/ sharpened Horns

Bastiladon w/ laser

1995pts

At 2000 pts, with only 5 drops, you're looking at getting horribly outdeployed.

You're saurus can be avoided in that size, and so your monsters can easily be set up against the best possible unit (from your opponent's point of view).

It might be an idea to look for a way to increase your amount of units.

I believe that's for 2400 pts, or about there though.

He does some target saturation with the 2 bastiladon's which both provide a good spell to use in magic phases while lacking a slann.

He has 9 drops, which will make sure he doesn't get completely outmaneuvered.

He has a lot of threat, a lot of the list is set up to provide a fast list that can threaten most of the table, with a center of saurus that will hold up just long enough for another charge to go in.

I'd take inspiration from there doing a carno list, not necessarily dual needed.

Yes from experience i find myself massively out deployed XD i tend to rely on my light slann to buff my Saurus and monsters across the table! I think the double Carnie sounds like a good plan. I shall have a think and revise the list a bit, thank you

You'll get more use out of having another unit of Skinks than you will from 6 Skink Champions. You're shooting for poison 6's, so an extra pip of BS isn't going to gain you much if anything. I think you can do 6 units of 10 and 1 unit of 11 without champs.

Well the champions are more there for the challenges, I can hold up enemy cowboys as long as Im in a wood, stubborn with a challenge means i hold him for a turn!

Cowboys really aren't seen that much where i'm from, i see heroes in units mostly, and i think most people go by it that way.

I agree that the patrol leaders most likely are unnecessary.

Other than that, i like the new list, way more MSU than the first one though, going to be a lot about picking your fights!
