8th Ed. going from 600 to 1000 pts

i have 16 saurus, 24 skinks, a skink priest, and a scar-veteran.
Under 8th edition core is crucial, so im getting an extra unit of saurus (everyone can agree that this is a good idea i think). but after that i would be left with 40 bucks to spend, enough for a steggie.
is getting a stegadon a good idea for 1000 point games?

Well i just ordered a unit of saurus warriors and a stegadon, as well as the new rulebook. New toys for the new rules!

In 1000 pts you won't be able to field him as ancient stegadon though (rare), keep that in mind!

i know, but can the regular stegadon be effective? against brettonian knights and their 3 wide ranks i would imagine the giant bow would be at its best, but i think the steggie is probably better for a combat role.
is it?
