Hi this is my first post on Lustria need some help from experienced Lizard Players. I am an avid player of 40k and fantasy and my main army is Ogres (Rawr). I have been creepin on lists on here and dont see many hordes of warriors, why is that? my philosophy is rock a 30 man unit 10x3 with Hw shields so u get 40 attacks with a 4+6+

Ok so at my store im running an escalation league starting out at 750 points no restrictions i have 2 lists, one is more realistic and one more fun . . .

oldblood light armor shield and halberd (2+ armor and 5 attacks strength 6)
Skink priest lvl 2 plaque of tepok (3 spells for 115 points)
24 saurus warriors Full command (big unit)
Salamander extra handler (cover flank and cooks enemies)
13 skink skirmishers (redirectors and poisoned shots)
749


Oldblood Cold one halberd
Scar Vet cold one piranha blade shield and light armor
14 skink skirmishers
13 Skink Skirmishers
6 Cold Ones Champ-20
750

I always prefer HW/Shield. The parry save is fantastic especially when your being hit with GW.
 
at 750 points I dont feel you need a Lord character OR magic. I say no magic because all too often with lower lvl games is you have one or two spells... if you roll something like 6,4 for winds of magic that give you 10pd and your opponent 6dd assuming no channels. If you have one spell thats 4 wasted dice and chances are 6 dice are WAY too many to throw at the one spell that your opponent is going to throw his 6 dice at it and dispel it anyway. And if you do throw all 6 dice at it you risk IF and miscasting which could be devistating at lower point games... And if you have two spells it gets a little better but nothing too functional... but.. Plaque of Tepok DOES help with this.. so if you do take a priest make him lvl-2 and Plaque

I was gonna suggest that too but there isn't enough hero points in 750 for a Scar Vet and a Skink Priest.

I second that what your spending on the oldblood is not worth it. You could get a whole extra combat block.

Could get two almost naked scarvets for the heros slots instead of skpriest
 
Ok ima play test a lot considering i just picked them up. The no magic part is completely viable but i almost wanna try the cold one list just to hit hard with the one unit and avoid them with skinks.

and are slamanders THAT good? i feel like they will be inconsistent
 
Even when you have a bad experience with the salamanders, it will be well worth it. They are great when they just sit there. After a couple of games, your opponents will go out of their way to take that unit out first.

Ideally, when you use them you should position them about 7 inches away from your target. That will get the best coverage. You should also (almost) never hold against a charge with them. I say almost because in some situations, you should. Those would be if the salamander will run off the table when charged or if it will set up a redirected charge that you do not want happen.

ah.. crap... youre right... my revised list

Saurus Scar-Vet, Light Armor, Halberd, VoFF, Dragonhelm, Talisman of Endurance
25 Saurus Warriors, HW/Sh, FC
10 Skink Skirmishers, blowpipes
10 Skink Skirmishers, blowpipes
2 Salamanders, 2 extra skinks

total: 749

This will be a very tough list to beat... My suggestion is to try and keep the skinks within the inspiring presence for the Ld8, but not close enough to panic the Saurus. 2 Salamanders is just going to BBQ any infantry unit. Not so many if you are facing Ogres sadly but it will do SOME damage. And they are really good against high armored Cav units. The -3 AS is awesome! Also keep in mind if you know you are going against Ogres the Piranha Blade is pretty awesome!
 
thanks for the input guys, really appreciate it. In the escalation league i will be facing: Tomb Kings, Dark Elves, Ogres, Vamp Counts, Beastmen, Night goblins (yes he only runs Night Goblins), WoC, and Skaven. So its quite a variety, and i am only worried about the DE and WoC, the other players are not up to par lol.

So what are good ways to beat Dark Elves i would loveeee to squish a guy

I have been using a very similar list at 800 points, and I must say that it squishes everything. The only difference is that I am using javelin Skinks and a mounted Scar-Vet with a little different gear. I have found that using the denied flank tactic is the best, but it's the double Sally action really makes it a winner.

In my worst game with this list (against Skaven) my Scar-Vet failed stupidity for the first two turns. But by the time he got into a playable position on turn 4, the rest of the Skaven army had been ran off the board except a unit of slaves. :meh:

Elves are a little tougher, but the Sallies will make short work of them.

Welcome!

Hordes of Saurus are fun, but we have big-ol' bases. The odds of you getting all 10 in the first rank into combat is very slim. Totally your call, but I would stay with a frontage of 5-7. You can always reform into horde formation once combat gets going. I would run a 30 man unit as well, but I would go 6x5 until the killing started. As for spears, totally your call as well. Do you want to "potentially" cause more wounds or "potentially" retain more models?

As for your lists, they look pretty good. However, I would drop your Oldblood. Like everyoe has already said, a Scar-Vet will give you the same edge for less points cost. I'm not sure how your escalation leagues work, but around my neck of the woods we keep the same armies and their units/characters and build off of them. That means you'll have to wait even longer to get a Slann because the Oldblood is eating up Lord points. Just something to think about.

basicly spear/shield are better against ST 2-4 troops
and handweapon/shield are better against ST 5+ troops
