8th Ed. Equipping your skink priest

Hello,

I have been pondering now for a while how I would equip my skink priest. For the background I can say that this would be for a tournament environment and for 3k game. The list would also include slann. I have the list that I've been working on for this event in the army list section if someone is interested. Though I have altered it a bit since then.

Anyway I have some spare points, around 25-30 which could be used to anywhere. Since I'm a bit short on models for 3k army my best bet is to equip my characters more.

The skink priest is now holding a dispel scroll and only a level 1 caster. So it has some points still free to be allocated.

What I have been thinking is to get him one of the following items alongside with the scroll:

1) Blood statuette of Spite. Seems quite decent and has a bit surprise element on it. Timing should be perfect when using this so it won't go in vain. Good against "unkillable" dark elf lords and such but then again won't work that good against characters with T4 or better.

2) Ring of Fury. Cheap magic missile. That's about it. Will be using light on my slann so not many magic missiles from there since I'll be concentrating on those augments. With bad winds of magic won't be used because the toad will take all the dice.

3) Curse Charm of Tepok. Poor-mans-Puppet. Can be devastating or can be just waste of points really. I can see the potential on this item but then again it is quite random.

4) Level 2 upgrade. +1 to cast and one more spell. I think this one is the worst choice of the lot since the slann will be using almost all the dice so the extra spell won't really do much nor the +1 to cast.

The options are listed in the order which I favor them. I can see the good and the bad sides in all of them and so I can't really make up my mind. Any ideas from you which way to go? Or any other suggestions?

Also worth considering is the cube of darkness.

Oh yeah, probably should have mentioned that my slann is carrying the cube.

In a 3k point game, I will take the slann. I will also take three priests. All three are lvl1. One will have the dispell scroll, one will have the cube of darkness, and one will have the forbidden rod (and the amulet that grants a +4 vs the first wound). That in combination with becalming cogitation will dominate the magic phases.

I have yet to have it fail.

Feathered cloak for sure! Flying line of sight for your slann... Amazing!

Not sure if the cloak is the best way to go. Skink priests only provide LoS to magic missiles cast by slann. And since not that many lores rely on their magic missiles to turn the game in their favor I don't really see the effectiveness of the item.

Sure you could perhaps keep the priest more secure but then again lone character with M6 can do and move enough without the fly.

I have to agree... I haven't found the cloak all that useful. You are better off buying more models. Magic missiles definitely aren't that great anymore, and with the LoS rules as they are the Slann should be able to see most viable targets if he needs to anyway. Plus the priest can march 12" anyway, which is fairly fast for getting into LoS positions when required.

If you use him in a list without a Slaan the item (sorry I can't remember the name) that lets you spare reserve power is pure gold if you use it together with a Cube of Darkness or similar Skink Priest.

The slann should have cupped hands, not cube of darkness. Cupped hands is just too good in the hands of a slann not to use (even a life slann). Unless this tournament has some BS comp rules restricting that.
