8th Ed. Empire spamming warrior priests? lol?

As the tittle says, i've just had the worst experience to the date, when it comes to 8th eddition buggs.

I was recently competing in a tournament, and drew 3 empire armis to fight, in a row (Ofc, that's just MY luck >.<)

All of these 3 armies spammed 4 warrior priests + an Arc Lector, for a total of +6 dispell dice (1 each Warrior priest and 2 for the Arc lector).
This pretty much shuts down every single magic phase for any opponent, but not to me or anyone i've been speaking to does it say that they do not generate DDs in 8th (Erreta or FAQs doesn't say either).

Is it just me or does this seem pretty damn unbalanced? - Or am i missing some rule somewhere that forbids/negates this spamming?

- Oh, and yes you might argue that they are a lot of points on anti magic, but hey - they don't cost more than a slann + skink priest does.

Sorry if i seem frustrated or even angry, but well, i am! xD

Meh i played a game against a dwarf player...

Had the +2 to dispells and dispells all RiP spells withing 12 inches.
Had +5 dispel dice base PLUS he stole one of mine.
Had 3-4 dispell runes....

So he was dispelling at + 4 and had a 6 dice advantage on me before the dice were even rolled....

I got 3 spells off the entire game

One was IF, one he failed to dispell, one he let go.

If they want to spend that many points on that stuff, let them. The slann at least is also a general with better leadership and a battle standard. he spent a minimum of 360pts on Warrior Priest and 125 on the Arch-Lector. Granted, he probably has a war-altar as well...just remember that those "fighting" characters have roughly the same combat statistics as a saurus warrior.

Also remember that you've got a +4 to cast, he has no bonus to dispel with warrior priests.

Well, the dispel dice and the hatred is pretty much the only reason to field them. They have crappy stats but with the VHS they can be very good in challange. Without the dispel dice there isnt really any reason to field them. Empire had good magic defence in 7th as well and still do in 8th.

I think you'll see Empire fielding a horde of halberdiers of about 40 with a warrior priest to give them hatred. Pretty hard hitting unit.

- Ye, dwarfes are pretty much OPed at dispelling as it is atm, but the thing about empire is, that with the SteamTank buffed to T10, most armies don't have anything but magic to throw at it (it being imune to bolthrowers and what not, BoR is really all lizzies can do).

So fielding two steamtanks and +6 dispell dice.. well, then it seems like playing the actual game is just a formality to me, nothing can really be done.

He he, empire was my first army so I know all about it For the first time ever halberdiers is actully not totally crap. They will still die to everthing, T3 and 6+ sv, but they can do some damage now.

Empire seems to be maybe the hardest nut to crack for LM? Cheap hordes of halberdiers that can do some damage against saurus and the possibilty to have a very strong magic defense and very good artillery could make it difficult.

It's now a chariot in all means, which makes it vulnable to poison, though with a 2 + save, you'd need 30+ skinks to do any real threat to be honest.
60 shots would do 10 auto wounds, 1-2 of these would pass armor save..

So, in theory, fielding 100 skinks could do masive damage to a steam tank in just one turn, though the steam tank is vastly faster than skinks, and there's no way to fit all of those within range.

Sadly, the steam tank is imune to anything that isn't heavy magic or a cannon.

Wouldn't those big block die en masse from salamanders firing? Two units of 3 sallies, 3 units of chameleons (to hunt warmachines), A few blocks of saurus and a Slann. With focused rumination, you can cast Dwellers below on a Steam tank and have a good chose of IR (6 dice) or even him not dispelling (you have 6d6+4 he's got 6d6+6).

Empire and LM seem pretty matched to me. My best friend is starting Empire and we've been discussing this at length in the last few weeks!

I just played the dwarf anti magic army of doom
It wasn't to bad, until we realized he could use POWER dice in his turn to dispel remains in play spells.
I was not happy.

Dwellers Below won't work unfortunately, Stank automatically passes all characteristic tests except for initiative.

Since the steamtank has mutiple wounds on it's profile. it'll only be turned into gold in a roll of 6.
- Rolling 4+ dice to get a spell of that might get dispelled (It WILL get dispelled when they bring 7-12 DD every turn) and then only working one of six times. Transmutation isn't even worth bothering to cast on a steamtank.

When an empire army has Warrior priests / Arch Lectors the steamtank is imposible to even get down to 9 wounds when playing lizardmen. you'll just have to own him with the part of the army that isn't run down after the first turn (Getting the charge off in first turn by rolling 27 or 30 inch movement is just lame! xD )

You don't have to kill it, just knock off 3/4 wounds,
To that end, carny would do, only need one wound, yes it's 6's to wound but you only need one or two since the ultimate predetor rule will help.
TG with the razor standard, -3 to it's save will help,

It's hard without magic, but it's easier for us than non-cannon armies,

Well halberds die en masse to everything and even more to salamanders If I would face LM I would make sallies my first targets. I have just started out LM and been playing empire for a few years so my point of view isnt really neutral yet but I hope LM and Empire is a good match
Then againg, theoryhammer only helps you a bit, if they are on the same level then it comes down to army list and tactics

I think throwing 7 dice at searing doom (6+1 for Rumination) would give a solid chance of IF or at least an insurmountable dispel value. Then cupped hands the miscast onto one of his more strategically placed wizards (hope for the one that hits all wizards).

I can see a lot of solutions to this. Funnily enough something that doesn't involve magic.
I'll give you an example, meta tournaments in 40k involve a LOT of tanks. What is then used to counter tanks? Anti-tank weapons of course, which levels it. So what happens? People try to bring more tanks to counter the mass of anti-tank. What should happen? People should abuse the weaknesses anti-tank weapons in 40k have, namely being 1shot weapons and more often than not having a medium to short range. So how do you abuse these weaknesses then? You bring more bodies, namely the same guys who originally hid in tanks.
The funny thing is how infantry armies can still pack a lot of anti-tank, but said anti-tank can't handle the infantry. (Note: obviously I'm not counting those wretched Big Tank ft. Anti-tank blast spam players here, like IG)

The same thing applies to anti-magic in Fantasy. So you can't cast any spells? Then don't, I hope you brought something that doesn't rely on magic, like Saurus. If you didn't then take note and do next time.

When you're opponent brings fire, fight him with fire and let him believe that's what you got. When he returns with water stab him with your umbrella.

Saurus doesn't do much against a Steam Tank.

In theory you're correct, if you face anti magic you better have something that doesn't rely on magic, though the problem is that the Steam Tank is imune to anything the Lizards has besides magic.
So an anti magic empire army is just rolling right over you, with nothing stopping it.
